Daily Fantasy Stock Report: Robert Griffin III shines vs. Atlanta

Every morning we compile the most important fantasy football links of the day for you to stay up-to-date and ahead of your fantasy opponents… This is your number one place for beat writer blabber, injury news, transaction tracking, and fantasy analysis from the experts who taught us a thing or two.

“Robert Griffin III completed 6-of-8 passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns’ second preseason game against the Falcons.”

In The Wolf’s second version of his quarterback rankings, he surprisingly put Robert Griffin III as his QB16. Boy did RGIII back up those rankings in the second preseason game. He showed off his vintage beautiful deep ball on a 50-yard touchdown pass to Terrelle Pryor. Pryor looks like the long-strider who will be good for one-or-two deep balls per game, which is perfect for Griffin’s crazy arm strength and downfield accuracy. Griffin’s second TD was even better, as he hit Gary Barnidge where only he could catch it, for a 29-yard score. We all know RGIII has the talent and he might have the weapons in Cleveland with Barnidge, Pryor, Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman, Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson. Don’t say we didn’t tell you so.

“It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Patriots run more than 80 percent of their offensive snaps with both tight ends on the field, so it won’t be a matter of playing time for Bennett as much as how defenses decide to handle the dual threat at the position. It also helps that Garoppolo and Bennett have seemed to develop a rapport in the preseason.”

Mike Reiss, ESPN

The Patriots’ offense looks like it could have not one, but two fantasy TE1s. The only question at this point is if Martellus Bennett will steal enough targets and touchdowns from Rob Gronkowski, where it would severely hinder his fantasy excellence.

My rebuttal: Remember 2011? Aaron Hernandez finished that year with a 79/910/7 statline. Pretty good. Gronk put up decent numbers himself, as he found the endzone 17 times on 90 catches. He also put up 1,327 yards. Not to mention Wes Welker, Hernandez and Gronk all received 113-plus targets. Chill, it’ll be alright.

Jeremy Langford rushed eight times for 55 yards and one touchdown in the Bears’ second preseason game against the Patriots.

Jeremy Langford is climbing up The Wolf’s RB rankings after putting up 55 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. He shot all the way up to 19 in Wolf’s rankings, and he looks like a true three-down threat. There were murmurs in camp regarding a three-headed horror show in the Chicago backfield, but it looks like they were just lighting a fire under Langford’s ass. It worked. Jordan Howard carried the ball 11 times, but it was late in the game when the first team was firmly on the bench. Monitor Langford’s first half next week because if this three-down workload replicates, he will be very valuable as a mid-round selection with solid RB2 upside.

As we mentioned in our pregame blog, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald stated before the game that Tom Brady would start. The Patriots themselves even said pregame on the radio that Brady would get time. Then TB12 was not on the field for warmups and he was seen walking to his car in the parking lot. Tom Curran of CSNNE tweeted out during the First Quarter that Brady cut his thumb on a pair of scissors  when he tried to pry something out of the bottom of his cleat. After all that commotion, it looks like Tom Brady’s next game at Gillette will be in Week 6 vs the Bengals. Weird.

Quick Hits:

  • Per usual, there’s lots of news coming out of Foxboro. It looks like they’re being extremely cautious with Dion Lewis and we wouldn’t expect him to practice until Week 1.
  • Thomas Rawls will be sidelined from game action until at least week 4 of the preseason. Expect a little committee in Seattle.
  • Kelvin Benjamin went without a brace on his surgically repaired knee
  • Hopefully Big Ben doesn’t get hurt because Landry Jones (4 INT) sucks.
