STEFON DIGGS SIGNS 1-YR DEAL WITH COMMANDERS

After months of rumors and speculation, free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs has finally found his next destination. According to Jordan Schultz, the Washington Commanders are signing the four-time Pro Bowler to a one-year, $12 million contract.

From the start, Washington felt like the most natural fit. The Commanders entered the season with a clear need at WR2 alongside Terry McLaurin, and Diggs brings the proven production and veteran presence needed to fill that role. Even after suffering a torn ACL, he bounced back impressively, commanding 102 Drake Maye targets and proving he can still be a major factor in the passing game.

During his lone season with the Patriots, Diggs reminded everyone why he’s been one of the league’s most consistent receivers for nearly a decade. He finished with 85 receptions, 1,013 receiving yards, and four touchdowns, leading New England in targets despite running routes on just 71% of the team’s pass plays in Josh McDaniels’ rotation-heavy offense.

Beyond the box score, Diggs provided valuable leadership for a Patriots team that exceeded expectations. He quickly became one of Drake Maye’s most trusted targets, catching an impressive 83% of his targets while serving as a reliable chain mover throughout the season.

New Commanders’ OC David Blough is expected to incorporate more under-center formations in 2026, creating additional opportunities through play-action. While McLaurin remains the unquestioned No. 1 receiver, Washington’s offense still offers a significant volume of available targets.

The departure of Deebo Samuel, who averaged a little over six targets per game, leaves plenty of opportunity in the passing attack. And although McLaurin is one of the NFL’s premier field stretchers, the two should complement each other well.

Diggs has been one of the sharper values in Best Ball drafts all offseason, largely because it always felt likely he would land with a contender and Washington is exactly that.

Prior to the move, The Wolf had Diggs ranked as WR51, a significant 31 spots ahead of the ECR. Meanwhile, McLaurin currently sits at WR17, aided by reports that Blough plans to move him around the formation more frequently to maximize mismatches.

With Diggs now joining an ascending offense led by Jayden Daniels, fantasy managers have a clearer picture of Washington’s passing attack. McLaurin remains the top option, but Diggs immediately steps into a role with enough volume and upside to make him one of the more intriguing mid-round fantasy targets heading into 2026.

FEEL GOOD STORY: TANK DELL RETURNS TO PRACTICE AFTER MISSING 2025

After missing the entire 2025 season due to a devastating knee injury suffered late in 2024, Tank Dell has officially returned to practice with the Houston Texans. It’s an encouraging milestone for one of the NFL’s most electric young receivers and a significant step in what has been a long and challenging road back.

Texans GM Nick Caserio noted in late July that Dell will be eased into action, with the wideout expected to remain limited in practice for the next few weeks as he continues recovering from what many viewed as a career-threatening injury. The organization’s cautious approach underscores both the severity of the injury and the importance of ensuring Dell is fully healthy before increasing his workload.

Even if Dell progresses without any setbacks, fantasy managers should keep expectations in check early in the season. Houston’s receiving corps is significantly deeper than it was before his injury, and Dell is likely to open the year as the Texans’ third or fourth option in the passing game while he works his way back into football shape.

That reality limits his immediate fantasy appeal, particularly in redraft formats where target volume is king. As a result, Dell’s return does little to alter The Wolf’s Fantasy Football Rankings heading into the season.

While this may not be the headline-grabbing fantasy development managers were hoping for, it’s still one of the more uplifting stories of training camp. Dell was widely regarded as one of the league’s most exciting young receivers before the injury, flashing game-breaking speed, route-running ability, and strong chemistry with CJ Stroud.

FANTASY FOOTBALL NOTES FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE

  • Chase Brown is “being used all over the formation, similar to the way Ja’Marr Chase has been deployed in recent years. Brown lines up in the slot and runs a slant one play, then takes a jet sweep the next. He’s part of 20 personnel with two running backs, motions into the backfield, behind a fullback and almost any other spot imaginable.”
  • Another feel good story: free agent TE Zach Ertz is “cleared for all football activities” after tearing his ACL in Week 14 of last season. Ertz was spotted playing catch on Tuesday with his former college teammate, Andrew Luck. Ah, what could’ve been.
  • RapSheet believes Tua Tagovailoa will ‘likely’ start Week 1 for the Falcons.
  • In what is one of the more pathetic “QB battles” of all time, the Browns will alternate Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson as preseason starters.
  • With one of the great offensive minds (sarcasm) in Matt Nagy calling the shots, the Giants offense has looked “disjointed” early in training camp, according to Dan Duggan. Nagy is looking to run a more traditional offense this season after Brian Daboll implemented a chunk of the Ole Miss playbook to ease Jaxson Dart’s transition to the NFL. We’ll keep tabs on this one.
  • Ravens rookie WR Ja’Kobi Lane has been the “star” of camp and appears to be in the driver’s seat for the WR3 job behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.
  • Move over 49ers… Buccaneers WRs Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, and Jalen McMillan did not practice Tuesday to manage injuries and soreness, while Tez Johnson left Wednesday’s practice with a groin injury.
