De’Zhaun Stribling is my favorite 2026 Fantasy Football WR Sleeper. I currently have him at 100th Overall (+63 ADP spots) in my 2026 Fantasy Football Rankings, and plan to draft him on every team this summer.
Most people, myself included, were shocked when the 49ers made Stribling the 33rd Pick and WR6 off the board. According to Adam Schefter, “There were a couple of teams that I spoke to leading up to the draft that felt like De’Zhaun Stribling was the best wide receiver in the draft. Another team, supposedly the Los Angeles Rams had eyes on him as well.”
Still, the pick felt like a reach. After the start of 2026 NFL Training Camp and Preseason Week 1, Stribling is starting to look like a steal.

De’Zhaun Stribling Prospect Profile: Size-Speed Monster
Physically, Stribling is a monster: 6’2”, 206 lbs, 4.36 forty – the definition of a size-speed terror (97th percentile):
When asked about the pick in April, Shanahan first cited Stribling’s high-end blocking ability. This has been fully on display throughout Training Camp, where teammates and coaches have fallen in love with Stribling’s willingness to throw his body on the line.
However, Shanahan also then mentioned, “I really fell in love with him with the ball as a route runner, how fast he is, how big he is, how good his hands are, how physically he played with the ball.”
Stribling did have 335 YAC during his final collegiate season, and is also a great Red Zone threat. Shanahan also mentioned the “Jauan Jennings role” early-on. Don’t forget, Jennings was the WR25 and WR30 in FPs the past two seasons, with 6 and 9 TDs.
De’Zhaun Stribling Drumbeat has been Deafening
Despite some intriguing measurables, solid praise, and impressive statistics, Stribling still seemed like a long-shot to produce in Year 1. The 49ers had added Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, while Ricky Pearsall was expected to fully break out.
Then, Training Camp hit. Ricky Pearsall suffered a season-ending PCL injury. Additionally, Christian Kirk suffered a calf-strain, and has no time table to return. Mike Evans has had to miss time with a quad injury, and George Kittle is still recovering from his Achilles surgery.
Consequently, Stribling has been fast-tracked into the WR2 role for the 49ers, and has done nothing but impress.
The Training Camp hype started early. In the first few days, QB Brock Purdy gushed, “Dude is a baller, and I mean that. It’s hard to say that for a rookie, right off the jump, but just seeing him run routes…He’s a great route runner. He’s smart. He’s learned the playbook really quick, which is awesome. And then, on top of that, you can see his strength, too. When he’s going up against guys and creating separation…this guy’s going to be a guy that’s going to come in and play.’”
Purdy added, ““The dude has proven to all of us that he’s reliable and we can trust him…I have a lot of trust in him right now.” This is rare for a rookie this early.
After the first week of practice, Dave Lombardi wrote: “The good news for the 49ers is that De’Zhaun Stribling continues to shine. Easy speed and acceleration at 6-3 is a special trait. He went SKY HIGH to grab a pass from Purdy today. Impressive….His strides are long, his cuts have been smooth, and he’s caught everything thrown in his direction.”
Stribling then had to miss a few practices due to a minor hamstring injury returned from his minor hamstring injury, and immediately reclaimed his throne as the most impressive WR on the field.
Just look at this hype storm, from some writers I highly respect:
Grant Cohn called Stribling “the best Wide Receiver on the team, Full Stop!”
Cohn even went as far to say Stribling was even outplaying Carnell Tate (more on that later):

While generating all this hype is of course great, where does that actually leave Stribling in terms of a 2026 role with the 49ers?

While generating hype is one thing, actually seeing it materialize is another.
Stribling seems to be in the perfect spot with the 49ers.
This offseason, the 49ers reportedly made a concerted effort for “bona fide return to offensive explosiveness this season.” Purdy said adding these “third-level” players is especially important:
“We’ve been able to bring in personnel…The third-level throws down the field are definitely a thing we delved into and looked at this offseason. How can we get those kinds of plays and explosives? In order to get those, you need the right guys to do it.I think we have shown that we have some speed now. From what I’ve seen the first two days, being able to air it out and get guys out in those positions, man, for me, I’m like, ‘Let’s go.’ It brings a whole other dynamic to our offense”
Purdy has been incredible on deep throws since becoming a starter, ranking 2nd in deep passer rating:
During 2023, the offense they are trying to recreate, “Purdy completed 33 of 57 passes for 1,060 yards on throws that traveled more than 20 yards downfield. His adjusted completion rate of 61.4% on such throws was the best on Pro Football Focus’ record, which goes back over two decades, and his 12:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio was also superb.”
They’ve lacked the deep weaponry in recent seasons with Aiyuk’s injury and then drama. Even still, Purdy’s 52.9% adjusted completion percentage on throws traveling over 20 yards was second-best.
Stribling is the perfect WR for the task, and has reportedly been thriving with his fast-track to the starting lineup. He’s been getting deep and stacking up yards after the catch too.\
Plus, the team is moving him all-over in an attempt to create mismatches and allow Stribling to shake-free deep. They envision him as a “big slot” mismatch:

De’Zhaun Stribling Preseason Performance: Smashing NFL Debut
Against the Titans on Thursday, Stribling put on an absolute clinic. It’s one thing to “outshine” Carnell Tate on the practice field. It’s another to outshine him, and every other player, in an actual game.
In roughly 1.5 quarters of action and on just 3 drives, Stribling accrued 8 targets, 7 receptions, and 63 yards. This included multiple difficult contested catches, including a beautiful over-the-shoulder catch for 32 yards:
This is truly giving off Puka Nacua vibes in just how dominant Stribling has been since Day One, and how it’s manifesting on the field immediately.
Ultimately, there’s no play-caller + QB duo I trust more than Shanahan and Purdy. This offense has always sustained multiple mouths, and Stribling’s role as a move-around, mismatch size-speed slot, will be invaluable. Especially with the 49ers’ expressed desire to return to a downfield attack, Stribling is making himself irreplaceable.
