2018 Fantasy Football: Week 7 Top WR/CB Matchups to Exploit

Here are three perimeter matchups to exploit this week.

It’s officially Week 7! The NFL regular season is almost halfway done.  Where has the time gone?  Hopefully everyone that follows the Roto Street Journal is pulverizing their competition.  Continue paving your way to fantasy greatness with the latest WR/CB matchups you all should exploit. Without further ado, let’s get started.

Albert Wilson

This week, Wilson is facing the Detroit Lions and their exploitable secondary. Captain “Yards After Catch” (YAC), Wilson, made Brock Osweiler look good last week vs the Bears.  On the season, Wilson has 324 yards after the catch, which is an average of 54 YAC/game.  For the season, Wilson only has 359 total receiving yards.  This makes Wilson a potential boom-or-bust play this week and I feel fairly confident it will be the former.

Wilson’s likely counterpart, Teez Tabor, only runs a 4.62 40, which compared to Wilson’s blazing 4.43 40 speed, makes him a high candidate for getting left in the dust.  Tabor also doesn’t exactly lock his assignment down either, allowing a catch rate of 71% when targeted.  Osweiler makes a lot of excellent receivers look ordinary, like DeAndre Hopkins, but this matchup screams high upside and I am drinking the Wilson Kool-Aid this week.

Willie Snead IV

Okay before you log off the website and walk off muttering about how I have lost my mind, at least read my reasoning first.  Snead has an excellent matchup this week against the worst pass defense in the entire league.  That’s a good enough reason to at least give him a look, right?  Snead and Flacco have been sneakily developing some serious trust and it’s starting to bear fantasy fruit.  Snead’s targets the last three games are as follows: 7, 7, and 10.  In those three games, Snead has caught 18 of his 24 targets for 171 yards.  With fellow receivers Michael Crabtree and John Brown likely getting their fair share of Darius Slay for most of the game, there is a chance for more targets for Snead against lesser competition.

Snead will most likely be covered by P.J. Williams, who surrenders 0.5 fantasy points per route and allows his assignment to catch 70% of targeted passes.  Williams also gives up two yards per route covered.  Long story short, there are a lot of points available for Snead this game if he can capitalize.

Julio Jones

If you managed to make it this far, the name Julio Jones might help convince you I am in fact sane.  In fact, Julio is my favorite play at wide receiver this week overall.  Julio is expected to be shadowed by Janoris “Jackrabbit” Jenkins this week and I see a mismatch made in fantasy heaven.  Let’s start with the measurables.  Julio is 6’3″ and runs a 4.34 40 while Jenkins is 5’10” and runs a 4.41 40.  So you’re telling me Julio is bigger, stronger, and faster…and he is likely to be shadowed all game?  This matchup just drips with explosive potential.

Julio has been targeted 69 times this year and has produced 44 receptions for 708 yards and, somehow, zero touchdowns.  Julio catches 68% of his passes and registers 3.16 yards per route run.  On the flip side, Jenkins allows a catch rate of 74% and surrenders 1.84 yards per route covered.  Julio is just going to demolish Jenkins this week.  Even if he is double covered I don’t think it’ll be enough to stop Julio from dominating the hapless Giants secondary.  I’m calling my shot too.  Julio finally finds the end zone this week.
