Chase Edmonds Fantasy Outlook with Kenyan Drake Injury “Week-to-Week”

Chase Edmonds fantasy outlook skyrockets after Kenyan Drake suffered a "week-to-week" ankle injury.

The thin fantasy football RB pool grew more shallow after a brutal Week 7 of NFL action. During Sunday Night Football, both Chris Carson and Kenyan Drake suffered respective foot and ankle injuries that will sideline them for the foreseeable future.

This opens the door for volume within two Top-10 scoring attacks. Who will capitalize?

Let’s dive into the Cardinals side first, where Drake’s unfortunate ankle injury sends Chase Edmonds’ fantasy outlook soaring.

Kenyan Drake Injury Update

A week after his 164 yard, 2 TD outburst, Drake suffered a serious ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday Night’s thriller. Visibly upset, Drake was carted off.

Drake’s X-Ray’s came back negative Sunday night; however, an MRI revealed a slight ligament tear in his ankle.  Drake’s expected to “miss a few weeks,” as the Cardinals treat this like a high ankle sprain.

Owners can take (mild) solace in Drake’s Week 8 Bye eating one of those missed games. Still, don’t expect Drake back until Week 12.

Chase Edmonds Fantasy Outlook without Drake

Edmonds (63% owned) probably isn’t available in your leagues. Hopefully, that’s because you own him.

On far less 2020 work, Edmonds has been the best Cardinals back all season, especially recently:

Edmonds is a far smoother pass-catcher, particularly in a 2020 where Drake has looked sluggish. As a whole, the Cardinals offense operates at a different clip with Edmonds in.

Edmonds ripped off 145 total yards on 12 touches (7 receptions), hitting 21.5 PPR FPs, good for the PPR RB5. In fact, he’s only topped 10 touches one other time in his career, Week 7 of 2019.

His statline? 29 touches (2 rec), 150 total yards, and 3 scores! 35 Fantasy Points – the PPR RB1.

In short: Edmonds should absolutely feast as the featured back now.

Following their Week 8 Bye, Edmonds gets a delicious date with a Dolphins team surrendering the 8th most FPs to RBs. He should smash for 20+ FPs.

Even when Drake returns, he’s no lock to get his job back. If this offense soars at the level they did with Drake in Sunday Night, why would Kingsbury turn back to his plodding “starter?”

Don’t forget: before the season kicked off, Kingsbury gushed, “”We all feel like Edmond’s is a starting running back in this league, and he does, too,” Kingsbury said.

“We felt that confident in what Chase brings,” Kingsbury said. “When he had his opportunities, he shined, and he continues to shine. He can catch it, run it, block, play special teams, and he’s really bright football-wise. He’s everything you want.”
