Dalvin Cook Explodes for 111 yards, 2 TDs as Perfect Fit and Fantasy Monster

We tried to tell you Dalvin Cook would be a league-winner this season. Hope you listened.

Dalvin Cook killed it in his first game of the season on Sunday, rushing 21 times for 111 yards and scoring twice.  Cook, whose threat as a potential receiver was part of his fantasy appeal going into the season, only caught 2 balls for 9 yards–and it didn’t matter at all.  Of all RBs in week 1, Cook scored the 5th most fantasy points.  That is no insignificant feat.

Here’s another mouth watering reason to be high on Dalvin Cook: In the course of dismantling the Falcons, Kirk Cousins passed the ball… wait for it… 10 times.  That’s right, the Vikings have Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, and they just put their heads down and ran the shit out of the ball.  In fact, the Vikings ran the ball on almost 78% of their offensive snaps in Week 1.  The next highest team in the NFL (the Ravens) ran the ball 63% of the time.  And Cook is, in the truest sense of the word, a workhorse back.

Will the Vikings run 78% of the time moving forward?  No, of course not.  But they sure looked like a run first offense last week, and Cook totally delivered.  Running into the teeth of a Green Bay defense that looked great last game (admittedly against Mitch Trubisky) in Week 2 may give you pause, but the Wolf still likes Cook as an easy call for an RB1 — ranking him 8th among backs this week and 5th overall in our ROS Big Board.  If you bought stock in Cook, you’re glad you did right now.
