Mecole Hardman Set to Fill Tyreek Hill’s Fantasy Cleats During his 4-6 Week Absence

The Chiefs drafted Mecole Hardman as their Tyreek Hill replacement and it looks like he'll get that chance for the next few weeks.

When the Chiefs used a second round pick on Georgia burner Mecole Hardman, they likely thought it was to immediately replace Tyreek Hill amidst his child abuse investigation. Yet after Hill somehow avoided a suspended by Fuhrer Goodell, Hardman’s fantasy outlook for 2019 looked non-existent. Sure, we thought he’d catch a few bombs and have those random 4-115-2 statlines, but his consistency wouldn’t be there on a week to week basis as he sat behind Hill. Not to applaud an injury, but it’s almost like the football gods spoke during Week 1 when Hill left Week 1 on a cart with a strange clavicle injury that required a visit to the trauma unit — which ended up being a four-to-six week injury.

Hardman played 52 of the possible 59 snaps after Hill departed and ran a route on 79 percent of his snaps — two silly numbers that prove the Chiefs have confidence in their rookie. The team will look to utilize his 4.33 speed and play-making ability in an attempt to recreate Hill’s touches. He’s clearly not Tyreek Hill, who is one of the game’s most electric players, but he fits the mold and measurables.

Hardman is very raw though, as he was not used much at Georgia and fantasy owners shouldn’t blindly throw him into their lineups in Week 2 if there aren’t better choices. Hardman is still shockingly available in 72 percent of Yahoo leagues and should be stashed while Tyreek is recovering from his injury.

We have Mecole at WR43 (+6 vs the current ECR) for Week 2.
