Adding a Jaguars player this late into the season is a brain-melting idea, but sometimes in the fantasy football landscape, you must be BOLD. I’ve got just the thing for you. The Week 4 DJ Chark injury set the Jaguars on a very interesting path: the team traded for TE Dan Arnold and added Jamal Agnew to their passing attack. Previously used mostly on special teams, Agnew has quietly put together a solid stretch of production as a wideout.
Targets seen by Jacksonville pass-catchers since they lost D.J. Chark in Week 4:
Marvin Jones – 26
Jamal Agnew – 26 🤯
Dan Arnold – 25 👀
Laviska Shenault – 24 😭— Aaron Larson (@aalarson) November 2, 2021
Coming off career highs in targets (12), receptions (6), and the first receiving touchdown of his career, the Jaguars’ newest gadget is trending in a very positive direction. Over the last three weeks, Agnew’s PPR output has been 10.9, 12.8, and 15.8 points, respectively. For comparison, in that stretch, Laviska Shenault has 17 total targets. Agnew had 12 last week alone. Shenault was a guy who was expected to flourish under HC Urban Meyer, but has been severely underutilized. The only real flourishing in Meyer’s tenure has been that of the Columbus bar scene.
Is it time to say that Agnew has surpassed Shenault as WR2 in Jacksonville?
Since Week 5, Agnew is WR39. That production came in only three games, as Jacksonville had their bye week during Bye Week Hell. Prior to that point, Agnew only logged one reception. To be a top-40 WR that basically started playing in Week 5? Bizarro-world in Jacksonville.
Let’s jump into some statistics. Over the last three games, Agnew has played in 65 percent of the team’s offensive snaps. Nothing crazy there, but to see these results from only playing two-thirds of each game is impressive. Agnew also has zero drops on the season and boasts a 116.7 passer rating when targeted, per PFF. This, coupled with the fact that he just received three times the looks over Shenault in Week 8, bodes well for similar output moving forward.
In PPR leagues, Agnew looks like a guy that can give you a solid 10 points each week. Sprinkle in a potential return touchdown, and you’ve got a safe player to roster. Available in 98% of ESPN leagues and 65% of Sleeper leagues, he should be out there to snag for minimal FAAB.
The Wolf LOVES Agnew this week, placing him at WR54 (+40 ECR) on his Rest of Season Rankings.
