CeeDee Lamb Emerging as Cowboys Clear No. 2 WR at Fantasy Expense of Michael Gallup

CeeDee Lamb is blossoming into an early fantasy monster, largely at the expense of Michael Gallup.

CeeDee Lamb is a flat-out stud. Whether running routes, zipping through defenses after the catch, or snaring contested grabs, Lamb’s pristine college game has translated seamlessly in Dallas.

Consequently, Lamb appears to have stolen the No.2 WR role within this explosive Cowboys attack. This will make him a fantasy monster throughout 2020, largely at the expense of Michael Gallup, 2019’s WR22.

On Sunday, Lamb tallied the most WR targets (9) and led the Cowboys in yards (106). He routinely moved all over the formation, most often landing in the slot where he feasted on poor third corners. Lamb will be a mismatch nightmare all of 2020, and this 100-yard outing should be the norm, not the exception. It’s only a matter before the TDs follow.

Through two weeks, the Cowboys receiving lines are:

  • Amari Cooper 16 rec (23 tgts), 181 yards, 34.1 FPs
  • CeeDee Lamb: 11 rec (15 tgts), 165 yds, 28.4 FPs
  • Michael Gallup 5 rec (10 tgts), 108 yards, 15.8 FPs

Ultimately, Lamb’s early ascension appears to have come at the expense of Gallup. If only someone could have predicted this happening…

My 2020 Big Board Overall Ranking of Lamb & Gallup

Gallup remains a fine player. He’ll have a blow-up or two before year’s end, no doubt.

Still, this looks a whole lot like Cooper commanding the “Jordy / Davante” style “X” role, while Lamb dominates in the clear-cut Cobb “slot / move around” role. Gallup, meanwhile, will fight for scraps behind them, Ezekiel Elliott, and now apparently a creature named Dalton Schultz at TE.

As such, Lamb has separated even further ahead of Gallup on my latest 2020 Rest of Season Rankings and Big Board. Lamb is a huge-upside WR3 / Flex play that should be started in nearly every format. In all honesty, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him emerge as the WR1 here come year’s end, especially if Cooper’s injury history hits.

Meanwhile Gallup, though not yet droppable, should be on most benches outside of the tastiest of matchups… just like the impending Sunday Shootout with the Seahawks.

If Gallup carries any “name value” in your leagues still, I would unload him as a chip in nearly any trade.
