Ty Johnson Slides into Fantasy Workhorse Role With Kerryon Johnson Injured

Rookie RB Ty Johnson should own the Lions' backfield with Kerryon Johnson out "week-to-week."

Kerryon Johnson exited Week 7 with a knee injury and is expected to “miss some time” with a knee injury, per our friend of The Fantasy Fullback Dive, Adam Schefter. With the Lions expecting their workhorse to be “week-to-week,” enter rookie Ty Johnson. The rookie took over the running back duties and although he didn’t dazzle (29 yds on 10 carries and 28 yds on four grabs), he was the clear bell-cow in that backfield over Seahawks legend, J.D. McKissic.

Stock Watch Update: Kerryon placed on IR

Johnson’s athletic measurables are very, very solid and he should be the top-targeted running back on Jimbo’s Week 8 Waiver Wire article. However, if Kerryon’s injury is more than just a “week-to-week” type deal, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if dummy Matt Patricia adds some sort of plodder to the mix (CJ Anderson reunion)?

If you are okay without Kerryon and you can spot some games where the Lions could be down on the scoreboard, then adding McKissic will be the much cheaper FAAB option — strictly in PPR leagues.

This injury dropped Kerryon down to The Wolf’s RB23 (-5 vs ECR) on his Rest of Season Big Board  and Ty Johnson will be added to the RoS Big Board once there’s some more clarity to the situation.
