Deep Ball Master Devin Smith to Takeover for Michael Gallup, Hail Mary Fantasy Play of Week 3

Devin Smith looks like he's back to his normal self and should be catching bombs from Dak Prescott against the Dolphins this weekend.

It seems like just yesterday Devin Smith was catching bombs from Cardale Jones in 2014, on his way to a national title for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Following that season, Smith was selected in the second round by the Jets and was known as one of the best deep ball trackers in recent college football history. It’s no mistake why he was compared to DeSean Jackson coming out of school, blazing a legit 4.42 40 and coming down with deep ball after deep ball. However, after back-to-back ACL injuries to the same knee (and being stuck with the Jets) to start his NFL career, Smith has yet to make an impact in the league — until now.

In Week 2 against the Redskins, Smith came down with a 51-yard touchdown, which was only the second score of his career and his first since his rookie season in 2015. But with rising star Michael Gallup out for the next 2-to-4 weeks to repair his meniscus, Smith will see a real increase in snaps and could even start against the pathetic Dolphins.

“He caught some balls and made some plays and you could see his confidence grow as he was making those plays — and then the next week, and then the next week,” Jason Garrett said. “I think he started to get a little bit of his spirit back and his confidence back and it’s showing up in his play.”

With the opportunity right there in front of him against the shittiest team in the league, expect Dak Prescott to take a couple deep shots to Smith and watch him make plays — just like it’s 2014 again.

He’s a high-upside, Hail Mary play in re-draft (Our WR48, +21 vs ECR) and a real DFS option in what should be an offensive explosion for the Cowboys.
