James Washington Looks to Own Steelers Fantasy WR2 Job With Mason Rudolph at QB

James Washington and Mason Rudolph look to recreate their collegiate magic with Ben Roethlisberger out for the season.

James Washington couldn’t seem to get out of Ben Roethlisberger’s dog house. Last season the veteran quarterback threw the rookie receiver under the bus in the media and the two couldn’t seem to get on the same page. Well, with Roethlisberger done for the season, Washington’s quarterback at Oklahoma State, Mason Rudolph, is now throwing him the ball.

During their three seasons as starters at Oklahoma State, Washington caught 198 balls for an absurd 4,016 yards and 33 touchdowns. In their final season together, the two were arguably the most electrifying QB-WR duo in the country. Washington won the Biletnikoff Award for the country’s most outstanding receiver — totaling 1,549 yards and 15 touchdowns on 74 receptions.

After the Steelers selected the receiver 60th overall and the quarterback 76th overall, the two continued to make plays in the preseason. Over the last two preseasons, Washington has posted 17-366-4 on only 216 snaps — with most of that coming from Rudolph.

Also, it also doesn’t hurt that Donte Moncrief straight up stinks. We couldn’t have been more wrong about Moncrief heading into the season, saying he had a top-15 wide receiver ceiling. He can’t get open, he can’t catch the ball and he’s soft as shit. ‘Hate cut’ Moncrief and add Washington, who’s still available in 71 percent of leagues.
