Deshaun Watson Shoots up Fantasy Rankings After Texans Overpay for Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills

The Texans finally protected Deshaun Watson by securing a franchise left tackle -- soaring him up our fantasy rankings.

Shockwaves were sent through the NFL on Saturday, but none were bigger than the Texans giving the tanking Dolphins TWO first rounders and a second rounder for their future franchise left tackle in Laremy Tunsil and the always steady, Kenny Stills. Tunsil is the more impactful of the two signings, showing that the Texans were hellbent on protecting their franchise QB this year — and rightfully so. The addition of Stills also gets another weapon for Watson, which will add more speed to this already electric offense. These two additions push Watson up to our QB2 and 60th overall on our Big Board

Entering this season, PFF ranked the Texans as the second worst offensive line in the league. Watson has been under siege since entering the league — enduring an absurd 62 sacks and 133 hits. Enter Tunsil, who’s one of PFF’s top pass blockers (79.5 rating) and overall left tackles (70.4 rating). In 2018, Tunsil only allowed two hits and eight hits on 491 pass block snaps, which makes him one of the best young tackles in the NFL. The rest of the line is still a disaster. However, adding the former Runnin’ Rebel will only help.

Initially, the Stills addition was thought to be a downgrade for Fuller. But after diving into his snap totals, Stills plays a healthy amount of his snaps from the slot — thus impacting Keke Coutee. On the Dolphins, a team that has rostered Danny Amendola, Jakeem Grant and Albert Wilson (lacking a true productive outside WR), they still found a way to get Stills into the slot roughly 30% of the time over the last few seasons. With Coutee unable to stay healthy, Stills will likely start in the slot and he also provides solid Fuller insurance since he also can’t stay on the field. More importantly, Stills just gives Watson another legitimate threat on the perimeter in this high-powered offense.
