Paper-Mache AJ Green Expected to Miss “Beginning-Half of Season,” Fantasy Stock Plummets

AJ Green is hurt... again.

The oft-injured AJ Green will miss significant time again, as he will undergo ankle surgery that will put him on the shelf for quite a bit of time. Shockwaves were sent across Twitter on Saturday afternoon when he was carted out of practice, but he luckily escaped with *only* torn ligaments in his ankle. Still, Green has yet to put up legit fantasy WR1 numbers since 2015, when he tallied 86-1297-10. With Green sidelined for a while, it’ll be Tyler Boyd taking a hit on the perimeter as the de facto WR1, with Joe Mixon mostly unaffected.

Even though he’s incredibly hard to trust due to his inability to stay on the field or stay away from injury, Green is still a monster when he’s fully healthy. His ceiling will always be there, but the question marks are extremely hard to ignore.

Zac Taylor’s words didn’t sound too reassuring after his stud underwent surgery. “It’s just going to be a couple of games … hopefully he’ll be ready to go at the beginning-half of the season,” Taylor said.

Green’s injury sent a slight fantasy shockwave down the Bengals’ lineup, as Green fell all the way to WR29 (62 overall), while Boyd fell to 61 overall. We’ll continue to monitor the Bengals’ offensive progress throughout camp under Taylor’s guidance and Green’s absence.
