The 57th Super Bowl was filled with end-to-end action in the first half, but Kansas managed to find a
way to hold back the Eagle’s excellent offense and made some great offensive plays of their own to take
home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. This game was great for all fans, no matter who they were rooting
for. Here are some of the key takeaways from the greatest game in world sports, and unsurprisingly the
Kansas City Chiefs are the talk of the town.
Patrick Mahomes Is A Super Bowl Legend
The Chief’s Quarterback took to the field with a niggling ankle injury that would have kept lesser men in
the medical room, but lesser men cannot overturn a 10-point halftime deficit to will their team to a win.
Mahomes even managed a 26-yard scramble on his injured ankle to secure the Chiefs their game-winning field goal. This iconic play, which will surely be on many ‘best of the Super Bowl’ videos for
decades, was just one of many memorable moments for Mahomes.
The odds were stacked against Kansas City by the time Rihanna took to the field, or floating above it at
least, during the halftime show. Mahomes had other ideas and upset the sportsbooks. He makes Kansas

Kadarius Toney Was Kansas’ Secret Weapon
This excellent wide receiver did not have much to do in the first half of the game. Used sparingly and
kept out of the action, even the most dedicated Chiefs fans could be forgiven for not noticing him make
any contribution in Kansas’ pretty dismal first half. That all changed after halftime. It could have been
strategy or coincidence, but Toney had much more to say and do in the closing stages of the Super Bowl.
In the early stages of the fourth quarter, Tony caught a 5-yard touchdown at just the right moment for
Kansas, with beautiful and intelligent movement that left the Eagles flat-footed and open-mouthed. This
was followed up by Toney returning an Eagles punt, one of the longest in Super Bowl history at 65 yards,
all the way back to the Philidelphia 5-yard line. This was then converted into another touchdown and
was possible the moment the tide turned in the Chief’s favor; they had all the momentum from that
point forward.
Travis Kelce Settled His Sibling Rivalry
Football has pitted brother against brother before, but never at a Super Bowl. Jason Kelce and Travis
Kelce are both impressive players with bright futures ahead of them, but it was Travis who shined the
brightest on the big night. The Kelce brothers facing each other in the biggest game in world sports was
a fun little B-plot to the big game that broadcasters were perhaps a little too eager to build up.
When all was said and done, Jason had a quieter game while Travis did what he does best and scored
Kansas’ first touchdown from a Mahomes pass. They had linked 14 times in the postseason alone, threatening the Brady/Gronkowski all-time record of 15 postseason TDs. Travis Kelce’s record of 16
touchdown receptions in the postseason is second only to the legend Jerry Rice’s record of 22. Travis
had a great game while his brother faded into the background. Kansas has quite a productive pair of
players in Kelce and Mahomes, and if they can keep clicking together the Chiefs may find themselves in
successive Super Bowls with a good chance of winning.
The Chiefs Have Big D Energy
The Philidelphia Eagle brought the league’s third-best offense to the Super Bowl, with a scoring average
of 28.1 points per game. Though they had the run of the field for the first half, Kansas had an awesome
defense for the latter half of the game and the Eagle could not make any notable penetrations into
the Chief’s endzone. They managed just 10 points in the second half while Kansas ran riot. Between Toney’s 5-yard touchdown and Skyy Moore’s 4-yarder that bore a striking resemblance to Toney’s play, the Eagle’s managed to gain just seven yards on KC. The Chief’s defensive abilities were well-known before the game but hardly lauded.
If they can keep up that level of performance next season they will be a force to be reckoned with and have an even greater chance of defending their title in Super Bowl LVIII. The Kansas City Chiefs deserved to win the Super Bowl. Their first-half performance doesn’t justify their win, but games are won on the back end and not the front foot. When all was said and done, it was the Chiefs that were dancing under the ticker tape, and if they can replicate their Super Bowl performance in their games next season, they could be doing the same again next year.
