Wildcats WR Nelson Spruce is XFL’s Michael Thomas, Peppered 15 Times in Debut

Nelson Spruce did his best Michael Thomas impression on Saturday night, corralling 11 of his 15 targets for 103 yards in a 37-17 loss to the Roughnecks. With Josh Johnson out of the lineup, Chad Kanoff targeted the wideout early and often, leading the league with a 34.1 percent target market share. Spruce showed off his terrific route running and found a way to gain separation all afternoon. The league’s first 100 yard receiver will get a major DraftKings boost, but he should continue to put up numbers, with or without Kanoff.

This type of success isn’t new for Spruce. During his four years at Colorado, he put up an astounding 3,347 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns on 294 receptions — all school records. After being released by the Rams, Spruce kicked the tires in the AAF, leading his team in receiving with 38 receptions for 426 yards and two touchdowns.

Spruce will get to add to his target total next week, when his Wildcats face off against the Dallas Renegades, who were upset in Week 1 against the BattleHawks.

After this target-hogging performance by Spruce, he has shot up The Wolf’s rankings from WR7 all the way up to WR1.

Let’s hope the 27 year old continues to dominate and finds himself on a training camp roster over the summer. He deserves it.
