Austin Hooper, Fantasy’s TE1, Sprains MCL and is Expected to Miss “Some Time”

Fantasy's top tight end landed on the shelf, but Austin Hooper should be back for the playoffs.

One of fantasy’s biggest surprises at its thinnest position, will likely miss at least two weeks and maybe even longer with a sprained MCL. Austin Hooper exited Week 10 against the rival Saints with a knee injury and he will get a second opinion to confirm his length of absence.

Through 10 weeks, Hooper leads all tight ends in fantasy points with 126, and is tied with Travis Kelce for most receptions at the position with 56. Hooper has been one of the few bright spots in Atlanta’s disappointing season.

If you were riding Hooper and cut your TE2 for the stretch run, it’s a very unfortunate break. Darren Fells (44% owned), Jack Doyle (52%), TJ Hockenson (52%), Kyle Rudolph (35%), Noah Fant (16%), and Jacob Hollister (7%, Week 11 Bye) are all decent waiver options to stream until your stud tight end returns. Journeyman Luke Stocker will take Hoop’s place on the Falcons’ depth chart. However, I’d prefer those other options over the Stocker, whose career high for receptions in a season is 16… back in 2012.

Get back soon, please.
