Wayne Gallman Shows Potential for Strong Weekly Fantasy Value as Saquon Barkley’s Replacement

The typically plodding Wayne Gallman actually showed some flashes in place of the injured Saquon Barkley.

Saquon Barkley owners who were alert enough to pickup his handcuff Wayne Gallman were handsomely rewarded in the Giants’ first game without their All-Pro tailback. Gallman recorded 24 touches in a Barkley-type role in New York’s offense, finishing with 63 yards and a TD on 18 carries and another 6 catches for 55 yards and a TD on 7 targets through the air. He did fumble in the 4th quarter, but overall it was a promising showing for the guy the Giants will be leaning on until Barkley can return, which likely won’t be until at least early November.

The Giants offense has been looking a lot stronger since Daniel Jones took over at quarterback, and his teammates’ stocks are rising accordingly. Gallman in particular looks to be in a great position in the offense, with little competition for carries behind him and a steady role in the passing game as well. His PPR stock likely takes a small hit with Golden Tate returning from suspension this week, giving their young QB one more mouth to feed, but his prominence in the running game will keep Gallman in the RB2 tier as long as he retains the starting position in Barkley’s absence.

New York’s next 3 opponents are all in the top half of the league in fewest points allowed to opposing RBs, which should be considered for final roster decisions, but Gallman should retain starting value through the remainder of his tenure as the Giants’ RB1.
