Dante Pettis is officially droppable in fantasy football. In a prime spot against the leaky Bucs secondary, he was nonexistent. Pettis played a grand total of 2 snaps, hauling in his lone target for 7 yards. Deebo Samuel (59), Marquise Goodwin (49), and creatures Richie James (26) + Kendrick Bourne (17) all out-snapped Pettis.
Perhaps all of Kyle Shanahan‘s odd summer commentary wasn’t just motivational coachspeak afterall.
After playing Pettis deep into preseason games while other starters rested, Shanahan reasoned the WR “must compete” for his role. Soon after, the HC went further, suggesting Pettis needed to “earn a role on the team.”
Pettis’ spot atop the 49ers unofficial depth chart eased some owners concerns. Still, this pathetic Week 1 disappearing act should send the alarms ringing. With so many exciting Waiver Wire WR options, Pettis should be shed in fantasy.
