Devonta Freeman Useless Fantasy Garbage in 2019 Debut

Devonta Freeman looks trapped in a committee with Ito Smith, which is even more concerning because he and his line also look like complete trash too

With Tevin Coleman gone and a bolstered offensive line, Devonta Freeman looked primed for a fantasy rebound. Unfortunately, his pathetic 2019 debut (8 carries, 19 yards) suggests Freeman might once again ruin rosters.

Freeman’s lack of production should be somewhat forgivable, considering the tough Vikings defense and poor gameflow.

However, he was concerningly trapped in a near-even committee split with Ito Smith, who logged 25 snaps to Freeman’s 27.

Moreover, the line continued to struggle to open any lanes all night, generating zero push. Freeman didn’t help the cause, looking sluggish and creating very little on his own.

The matchup was tough, and better days will be ahead for this offense. Still, owners must be concerned with Freeman’s RBBC, poor line performance, and sluggish start. I wouldn’t treat him any higher than an RB4 unless I see a more defined featured role and a strong leap forward from this offense.
