The Wolf’s LIVE Week 1 Fantasy Football Blog (2019): Lamar Jackson & Marquise Brown Thriving Early

Enter The Wolf's fantasy soul as he absorbs all of Week 1's action

I was typing my fantasy thoughts as the actions as TDs rained on my Red Zone screen, and had a profound thought: why not publish these live?

Below are my LIVE reactions as they happen. The fantasy nuggets you need to know, as they develop:

1:00 PM Games

  • Do the Browns stink?

  • All those rumblings of a goalline vulture in Carolina were for not. McCaffrey‘s been the guy and converted both times at the stripe.

  • If you faced Sammy Watkins… or benched Sammy Watkins… I’m sorry. It’s not your fault. He’s now at 9 rec (11 tgts), 198 yards, and 3 TDs.

  • Fuck. Malcolm. Brown. If Gurley’s not getting TDs, he’s losing 80% of what made him so valuable. This is the stuff of nightmares. He goes in for his second score, has outcarried Gurley 11-6, and is only 8% owned.

  • DeSean Jackson is the Eagles top-WR. He’s now up to 7 rec (8 tgts), 145 yards, and 2 TDs. He’s continued to flash the wheels all beat writers raved about, but is also getting it done in the short and intermediate game. This chemistry is too real.

More Low-Owned WRs to Monitor:

  • Terry McLaurin‘s flashing his trademark 4.35 speed and separation. He made highlight plays routine throughout camp, and is running wild. He’s now gone 3 rec (3 tgts), 104 yds, 1 score.
  • Both DJ Chark and Chris Conley drew rave reviews in camp, and fill-in Gardner Minshew is brewing with both. Chark hauled in a bomb tear-drop bomb on Foles’ injury, and is up to 3-111-1 TD (18.6 FPs). Meanwhile, Conley’s been the top target in a nice revenge game, and is now up to 4 catches and 60 yards in the first half. Meanwhile, Minshew hasn’t missed a pass yet.

  • Mark Ingram has gotten the rock on both goal-to-go situations, and converted. This is huge for his value moving forward, especially with the Ravens offense looking like a juggernaut.

  • Tyreek Hill is OUT for the day. Kharma… In the same, NIck Foles is also out, though much less-deservingly. Mecole Hardman is only 15% owned, and clearly Patcick Mahomes hasn’t lost a single step.  Oh, and that Sammy Watkins guy is doing a damn good job in the WR1 role. We already previewed Watkins’ Top-5 WR upside as their clear No.1, and he verified that emphatically in only a half.

  • Indeed the Dolphins are pathetic. Still, Lamar Jackson is just spraying dimes all over the place. He’s easily the story of the day. His WRs are running wide-open, sure. But whether that’s play-design or a lack of defensive respect doesn’t matter — fantasy points are fantasy points. He’s up to a perfect 9/9, 204 yards, and an insane 4 TDs THROWING! If he continues to be this dominant as a passer… and then the leg points join… we might just have our 2019 Cheat Code.

  • Speaking of the Ravens Air God… Marquise Brown is only 26% owned, and looking like the clear focal point. He should immediately be Week 1’s No.1 Waiver Priority. Brown’s gaining the same separation he used to in college, and is up to 4-147-2 TDs. Yikes.

  • Dalvin Cook is as perfect of a fit in this zone-blocking scheme as expected. I’ve predicted he’ll run for 2,000+ yards if he stays healthy, and this feels like a lock with a full-season.

  • Todd Gurley‘s usage is looking sketchy early, especially losing touches at the goalline to Malcolm Brown. I’ve raved about him as a laughable value in Round 2, but that was mainly assuming he was the GL back of this high-powered attack. Monitor this trend.
