The Buccaneers RBs Suck and Something Called Dare Ogunbowale Might be the Fantasy Sleeper to Own

Dare Ogunbowale might possess the most fantasy value in the Bucs' disaster of a backfield.

It’s a sad day for me. I’ve Stan’d Ronald Jones since he played college ball at USC and truly believed he would be one of fantasy’s biggest bargains this season after averaging roughly three inches per carry as a rookie. No, I don’t think his career is over. The season hasn’t even started yet. But outside of two positive touches in Preseason Week 1, he hasn’t made much noise. Then there’s Peyton Barber; the definition of a plodding talent and it seems as though Bruce Arians has finally realized he stinks. That leaves something called Dare Ogunbowale, who some are saying could be their third-down back and an eventual starter during the 2019 season, as the player to target based on his current value.

Our friend of the podcast, Trevor Sikkema, put Dare on the map with this quote:

“I expect Ogunbowale to be the initial third down back… Ogunbowale has, at times, looked like the best back they have – not even just the best third down back. It wouldn’t surprise me if he starts some games for this team at some point this season.”

Now, I’m not going to be like the rest of the fantasy community and pretend I know who the hell Ogunbowale is. He’s kicked around various practice squads over the last two seasons after finishing his collegiate career at Wisconsin. While in Madison, Dare racked up over 2,000 total yards and scored 15 touchdowns. Specifically, he led Badger RBs in receptions his final two seasons and is a much better pass-catcher over both Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones. He’s not a great athlete by any means (4.65 40), but his specific skill-set could give him the nod in Tampa.

Overall, we aren’t saying you need to draft Ogunbowale in the 10th round or something wild. Rick Stroud of The TB Times still believes Arians will go with the “hot hand” between Barber and  Jones in Week 1 — with Barber getting the start. But if you have an extra spot at the end of your bench or you’re throwing away a spot on some useless TE3, snag Ogunbowale and hope he can beat out the two zeroes who can’t catch the ball in Arians’ aerial attack.
