George Kittle Explodes for 210 Yards, Asserts Himself Among Elite TE Tier

Kittle almost re-wrote the record books on Sunday.

George Kittle caught 7-of-9 targets for 210 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ Week 14 win over the Broncos.

Kittle did all of his damage in the first half. He needed just five second half yards to set the single-game record for a tight end and somehow did not get it. You would think the coach of a 2-10 team would have done him a solid and ensured he got in the record book. As it is, Kittle became the first tight end in 49ers history to post a 1,000-yard season. The highlight was an 85-yard touchdown where the Broncos did not bother to cover the 49ers’ No. 1 weapon. Kittle was routinely running completely free, at least before the break. The 49ers get the Seahawks for Week 15.

With all the injuries surrounding the 49ers this season, the lone constant has been tight end George Kittle. He’s thrust himself into the elite tier of TEs alongside Travis Kelce, Zach Ertz, and a fading Rob Gronkowski (although he had a solid game Sunday). The injuries at the receiver spot to Pierre Garcon, and Marquise Goodwin missing some time the past couple weeks have put Kittle in a bigger role for the 49ers. He’s clearly the most talented player they have, and looks like a budding star for 2019. With the Seahawks and Bears on deck, those matchups aren’t anything to write home about, but you’d have to be smoking something special to leave Kittle on your bench going forward.
