Chiefs Release Kareem Hunt After Violent Hotel Video Emerges

In February, Kareem Hunt was involved in an altercation with several other people in a Cleveland hotel. Police were called and stories were given, but no arrests were made and the issue was largely forgotten about. Until today, that is, when TMZ released security cam footage of the incident. In the video, Hunt is clearly seen being very physical with numerous people, including shoving a woman multiple times and kicking her while she is on the ground. Hunt left the Chiefs practice facility today when the video surfaced, and after initially being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, was released by the Chiefs.

Here’s what Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt said about the incident in August:

“The team’s made up of a bunch of young men. They’re not always going to make the best decisions, but we have a strong support system, both with the coaching staff and also with our player development department that works with young guys and talks to them about the situations that they want to be in.

“Kareem is a young man, second year in the league, obviously had a very big year on the field last year. I’m sure he learned some lessons this offseason and hopefully won’t be in those kind of situations in the future.”

In their statement announcing Hunt’s release, the Chiefs stated they spoke with Hunt about the incident and he was “not truthful in those dicussions,” which prompted their swift release of the running back this evening. NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport floated the possibility of a 6-game suspension for domestic violence, but the league has yet to rule on that matter and likely will investigate further before making any decisions on a suspension. Hunt had accumulated over 1,000 all-purpose yards and 14 total TDs in 2018, but with today’s news, his season is almost certainly over.

From a fantasy standpoint, Spencer Ware is the next man up for the Chiefs in the tantalizing lead back role in an Andy Reid offense. He’s still available in 29% of Yahoo leagues.
