AJ Green Tagged by Bengals, Fantasy Stock Gets Slight Uptick in Rising Offense

A healthy AJ Green could do damage with Joe Burrow under center.

After missing the entire 2019 season, AJ Green has re-signed with the Bengals, just as the offense is looking to take a major jump in 2020. Having the No. 1 overall pick will surely help in that as all signs point to the Bengals taking Joe Burrow to open up the draft. The electric signal caller out of LSU had a historic season, ending with a Heisman trophy and National Championship, and will immediately provide an upgrade to the team at the QB position.

With the plethora of weapons in the Bengals offense, plus the addition of Burrow, they could be a much improved offense in 2020. Joe Mixon looks like a first round pick in fantasy drafts this year, Green highlights a solid receiving core alongside Tyler BoydAuden Tate, and John Ross. Plus, the team gets back 2019 first round pick Jonah Williams on the offensive line and they added Xavier Su’a-Filo in free agency.

When healthy, Green has historically been someone going around Rounds 2-4 in fantasy drafts. He slipped big time last year with the pre-existing injury, which forced some owners into rolling the dice on him in the later rounds, ultimately leading to a wasted pick.

Green has had 1,000-plus yards in every season where he’s played more than 10 games and is a true WR1 for a young quarterback. Looking at his measurables (6’4, 210 lbs), he could be a perfect transition piece for Burrow from LSU stud Justin Jefferson, who’s listed at 6’3, 192 lbs.

Health will always be the biggest risk and factor when determining Green’s fantasy value. If you can get a whole season out of him, then he’ll reward you in spades. That’s a BIG if, though. But, the team slapped him with the franchise tag, so it’s easy to see that the Bengals believe he’s healthy and ready for a monster year. Just like the team, I’m expecting a nice bounce back for AJ Green in 2020, while simultaneously praying he can stay healthy a whole year.

Following free agency, The Wolf has AJ Green ranked as his WR28, which is right about where the ECR has him for 2020.
