Drew Brees Pushes Back the Taysom Hill Era, Returns for 2020 Fantasy Season

Drew Brees announced that he will return to the Saints in 2020, keeping his fantasy weapons afloat for another year.

It seemed as though Drew Brees was going to ride off into the sunset after another heartbreaking playoff loss, but the 41-year old future HOFer announced on Instagram yesterday that he will be returning to the Saints for the 2020 season.

This is a fantastic development for fantasy purposes, because we were almost stuck with Taysom Hill as the Saints franchise quarterback. Sure, it would have been fun to watch at times, but Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, and the rest of the Saints’ fantasy weapons would have plummeted with that gimmicky Swiss-Army Knife at quarterback.

Brees is no longer putting up weekly QB1 numbers, but he’s feeding Thomas at an all-time rate and Kamara should bounce back after an injury-filled season. With some big names on the wide receiver free agent list and a bevy of top prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft, look for the Saints to give their quarterback some extra ammo for one last ride.

Although it seems like Brees is naturally declining, he still threw for almost 3,000 yards, while adding 27 touchdowns to only four interceptions in 2019.

Compared to the rest of the industry, we’re four spots lower on Brees in our 2020 Big Board, ranking him as our QB13.
