Chris Godwin Shines Again; Gunning For Fantasy WR1 Role

It's only the preseason, but Chris Godwin is living up to the early-season fantasy hype.

After another strong performance from receiver Chris Godwin in Preseason Week 3 is only strengthening the claim of him potentially being the Bucs WR1 in 2019. I was unable to profess and elaborate my love for Godwin in the latest Fantasy Fullback Dive podcast WR Roundtable episode so I’ll do my best for Godwin here. Godwin had 6 targets for 4 catches and 52 yards against the Browns. He lead all pass catchers in yardage and continues to flourish in Bruce Arians’ system. He’s been turning heads all preseason and the third year receiver is ready to explode.

We know how many targets and receptions are up for grabs with the desertion of both DeSean Jackson and Adam Humphries. Godwin still had 95 targets and 59 catches but those are certainly going to increase with the vacated amounts. He’s super talented, and very much threatening to Mike Evans’ WR1 role in Tampa Bay. This is an offense that threw for over 5,000 yards in 2018 and is adding Arians as their head coach. Also, they still don’t really have a quality running back in either Peyton Barber or Ronald Jones (ew) still. He’s got unbelievable talent and will be set free opposite Evans in 2019. He’s risen from a 5th round pick up into the 4th round at the moment seemingly settling in as a solid WR2 with serious WR1 upside.
