Fantasy Football Stock Report: Second year WR clamps down starting role in Seattle

Every morning we compile the most important fantasy football links of the day for you to stay up-to-date and ahead of your fantasy opponents… This is your number one place for beat writer blabber, injury news, transaction tracking, and fantasy analysis from the experts who taught us a thing or two.

After a rookie year compiling 51 catches for 664 yards and 8 touchdowns (2 return TD’s), it appears Lockett has solidified his spot among the Seahawks starters. Lockett became a valuable fantasy asset when Russell Wilson was shredding defenses down the stretch of the season. His speed and elusiveness make him a dangerous player in space, and knowing that Pete Carroll has high praise for him should make you feel more comfortable drafting Lockett this year.

“I think the sky’s the limit. This guy’s been successful at every level, and I’m a true believer that he’ll be successful at this level, too.” – Dirk Koetter on James Winston

First year head coach Dirk Koetter had high praise for his sophomore quarterback when discussing his potential. Koetter called plays last year for the Bucs and established a heavy run game to ease and mature Winston into the NFL. Now it looks like the reigns will be taken off Winston for some serious late round potential. Having targets like Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson are great weapons for any quarterback to work with.

“With Calvin Johnson retired, Matthew Stafford expects to spread the ball around a bunch this season. Stafford thinks the absence of a clear No. 1 option like Johnson could actually make things more difficult for opposing defenses. ‘It’s gonna, I think, be tougher for defenses in a certain way that they don’t know who we’re going to.”

– Matthew Stafford, Sirius XM NFL Radio

Stafford believes that the departure of Calvin Johnson could partially benefit his game with defenses no longer being able to key in on Megatron. I’m not buying it, Stafford is trying to spin zone us here. The only good things to come from Megatron’s departure will be the increased fantasy values of Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. Without Johnson though, I would expect Stafford’s numbers to dip as he’s losing a HUGE red zone target. I was never a fan of Stafford, but this should make you stay even farther away.

Not strictly fantasy:

  • Joseph Randle has been charged with a third felony after an alleged threat he made while in jail
  • Patriots new acquisition Jonathan Cooper is looking to put his past struggles behind him. Patriots Nation knows that all Our Lord and Savior needs is a functioning offensive line and the heavens should be opening for ring #5.
  • Von Miller and the Broncos contract negotiation talks have supposedly gone cold.
