The Scott Fish Bowl.
A fantasy football league featuring 1440 competitors, including some of the biggest guns in the game: Matthew Berry. Michael Fabiano. Evan Silva. Field Yates.
Ah, Mike Clay and Scott Barrett are in my own 12 person league! *Gulps*
But well beyond the chance to tango with some fantasy GOATs, the most important part of the Scott Fish Bowl is its core mission:
Using fantasy to raise money/awareness for good causes and charities.
My choice was an easy one.
Pete Frates is known nationally for championing the viral Ice Bucket Challenge of 2014 - a pinnacle moment in Pete's mission to raise the most awareness possible around ALS.
Described best by his family:
"Pete was an inspiration to so many people around the world who drew strength from his courage and resiliency.
"A natural born leader and the ultimate teammate, Pete was a role model for all, especially young athletes, who looked up to him for his bravery and unwavering positive spirit in the face of adversity. He was a noble fighter who inspired us all to use our talents and strengths in the service of others."
Locally, Pete's from my same hometown of Beverly, MA, just a few minutes up the road. I attended elementary school and played youth sports with Andrew, his younger brother, and we remain friends today.
Through Fantasy Football for Frates, I hope the RSJ can play a part in keeping Pete and his foundation's mission alive: to aid progressed ALS patients in their desire to stay at home with those who love them most.
We also have set a goal -- to raise at least $1,000!
