Fantasy Football Week 14 Sleepers: Should You Start Darren Waller, Chris Rodriguez, Trevor Lawrence?

fantasy football week 14 sleepers

One more chance to lock up your postseason spot. One more win. One more sleeper snag.

Whether you’re fighting for that last playoff spot, working to secure a first-round bye, or don’t want to be in the running for your league’s punishment, you’ve come to the right place.

The NFL wasn’t kind to us in weeks 12 and 14 during the final playoff push, with eight teams on bye. This week, in a last-ditch effort, you’ll be without anyone from San Francisco, New England, Carolina, and the New York Giants. While you may not be starting Brock Purdy or Bryce Young, you will be missing Christian McCaffrey, Rico Dowdle, Tetairoa McMillan, and Drake Maye.

If there was ever a year of NFL uncertainty that spilled over to weekly fantasy impact, it’s this season. But, more times than not this season, these picks ended up on the right side of the ball.

Let’s cut right to the chase and dive into the Week 14 sleepers to help you make the playoffs.

Editor’s Note: These selections rank Tier 4 or lower on The Wolf’s Week 14 Rankings.

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 14 SLEEPERS

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars

@ Indianapolis Colts

This is the second week in a row that my quarterback sleeper of the week is facing the Colts.

While C.J. Stroud underperformed in my book, I actually trust Trevor Lawrence more. If you asked me this at the beginning of the season, no way.

If you told me the Jaguars and Colts, both 8-4, would be playing meaningful football to take the lead in the division with the loser still holding a Wild Card spot, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Lawrence has scored at least 23 points in each of the last two games and I’ll be shocked if this is a field goal contest as we have seen in years past. This game should be close, and if it starts to get away it will be because Indianapolis is scoring, which is good news for us since we want Lawrence to throw.

Lawrence will have a full cast healthy for what feels like the first time in forever, even if Parker Washington (hip) misses the game. Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Dyami Brown, Tim Patrick and Brenton Strange (and Washington) will wreak havoc as a unit on a defense who just loss newly-acquired corner Sauce Gardner (calf) for an unknown amount of time.

The Clemson grad has scored more than 21 fantasy points in five of seven career games against Indianapolis.

Lawrence ranks in Tier 4 (QB 18) on The Wolf’s Week 14 Rankings.

Kenneth Walker & Zach Charbonnet, RBs, Seattle Seahawks

@ Atlanta Falcons

The Wolf crushed my dreams by elevating Kenneth Walker up to his third tier, so to make this work I threw in Zach Charbonnet to make a case for them as a tandem.

Atlanta allows the eighth-most fantasy points to running backs, and Roto Street Journal found a pattern. The Falcons like to allow points in waves, especially to teammates recently.

In Week 8, Miami’s De’Von Achane and Ollie Gordon combined for 28.5 fantasy points, with each picking up a touchdown on their days.

Then, the bounce-back game for the Falcons didn’t happen as it allowed New England’s TreVeyon Henderson and Terrell Jennings to combine for 19.1 points. Henderson recorded a career-high 32 receiving yards, and Jennings added a personal best of 44 total yards along with a touchdown.

Both Walker and Charbonnet have been complements to each other all season.

While Seattle has trusted Walker in terms of the number of carries in the last few games, averaging 14 per game, Charbonnet has scored three times in the past four games.

Walker ranks in Tier 3 (RB 16) and Charbonnet ranks in Tier 4 (RB 29) on The Wolf’s Week 14 Rankings.

Chris Rodriguez, RB, Washington Commanders

@ Minnesota Vikings

Washington’s season has been full of injuries, uncertainty and disappointment. But Minnesota (4-8), sitting just one game better than the Commanders (3-9) and also seeing many games feature a backup quarterback, aren’t doing much better.

Jayden Daniels (elbow) and J.J. McCarthy (concussion) should return for their respective teams on Sunday, and will likely need their backfield to help them shake off any rust.

That’s where Chris Rodriguez comes in.

He seems to have secured the starting running back job as of late (away from Jacory Croskey-Merritt), seeing double-digit carries in the Commanders’ last two games and three of four.

I’m nervous that he’s a touchdown or bust option this week, but have you seen league free agency pools lately? You gotta take what you can get.

If he needs a touchdown to have a serviceable sleeper day, playing the Vikings is coming at the right time. Minnesota has allowed a rushing touchdown in its last six games.

This game could be ugly, and I’m all for flexing a starter I could get as a free agent that can get double-digit carries and be leaned on in a franchise quarterback’s return.

Rodriguez ranks in Tier 4 (RB 26) on The Wolf’s Week 14 Rankings.

Jakobi Meyers, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars

@ Indianapolis Colts

Roto Street Journal has had people reach out ahead of Week 14, saying they feel they need to take a big risk to pull an upset and play another week. Apparently, that big risk means placing a quarterback and wide receiver on the same team in the sleeper series.

While I hope Washington plays for Lawrence’s sake, I almost hope he doesn’t play for Jakobi Meyers’ sake.

We need someone who catches the ball and scores for this receiver sleeper to work, so I cannot ignore Meyers’ being relied on for six targets in each of the last three games (and four of five since joining Jacksonville) as well as in the red zone.

Meyers has also posted 64, 50 and 90 yards in the last three games – a good expectation of what is to come on Sunday.

Meyers ranks in Tier 4 (WR 28) on The Wolf’s Week 14 Rankings.

Darren Waller, TE, Miami Dolphins

@ New York Jets

Darren Waller could not only be your tight end ticket to make the playoffs, but he could be the tight end sleeper overall for the duration of fantasy playoffs if he can stay healthy.

Aside from injury, Waller’s only other consistencies this season are embarrassing the New York Jets and scoring touchdowns. He can do both this weekend.

Waller returned from a pectoral injury last week against New Orleans and averaged 23.5 yards per catch.

Previously, he reminded everyone that he isn’t just retired and working on his rap career. His resurgence back into the NFL came quickly as he scored two touchdowns in the Dolphins’ first game of the season in Week 4. Against who? The Jets.

Waller also has more games than not with touchdowns this season, so while you likely can’t bank on help in PPR with him averaging four catches per game, there aren’t many other likely free agents available at the tight end position in general, let alone with a high ceiling.

Waller ranks in Tier 4 (TE 12) on The Wolf’s Week 14 Rankings.
