After Busting Hard, Will Baker Mayfield be 2019’s Fantasy Stretch Run Hero QB?

We went all-in on Baker Mayfield in the preseason and we might just go all-in on him again for the stretch run.

Heading into the 2019 season, we at RSJ we all-in on Baker Mayfield. We hailed Cleveland’s offense as legit and said Baker had the potential to be 2019’s Patrick Mahomes. Obviously, we were wrong. Cleveland’s passing game has struggled all year and Mayfield has been next to useless from a fantasy standpoint. But with a short week ahead leading up to a Thursday night matchup against Pittsburgh, I think we could be close to a turning point for Mayfield to become a fantasy hero.

Coming off a solid game against a tough Buffalo defense (and the addition of Kareem Hunt), Mayfield now enters a stretch with 3 out of 5 great matchups from a fantasy perspective.

The 2 Steelers’ games are tough divisional tilts between pretty even teams, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Baker breakout in one or both of those, either. And with games against Miami, Cincinnati, and Arizona ahead, Baker and the Browns offense could be headed for a strong finish. And with Mayfield owned in less than half of leagues at this point, you may not have to give up anything to add a guy that could put your team over the top, which is why Mayfield is my Buy Low of the Week.
