The first pitch of the 2026 MLB Season is getting closer, which means it’s time to debut my 2026 Fantasy Baseball Rankings and Top 250 Big Board!
As we head into the 2026 fantasy baseball season, roster construction feels more strategic than ever. The player pool continues to evolve, and understanding where true positional scarcity exists—and where it doesn’t—is critical when building out these rankings and, ultimately, your draft plan.
One of the biggest philosophical takeaways this year is my continued lean toward hitters over pitchers. Starting pitching remains deep across the board, and while there are certainly high-end arms worth investing in, the overall replacement level is much easier to manage compared to bats. That depth allows for more flexibility—whether you choose to anchor your staff early or build it out later, there are viable paths to assembling a competitive rotation.
The bullpen landscape continues to trend in the opposite direction. The traditional closer role has become increasingly fluid, with more teams deploying committees or mixing and matching based on matchups. As a result, fantasy managers are often better off either waiting on saves or paying up for the truly elite, locked-in options—anything in between can quickly turn into a headache.
From a positional standpoint, catcher stands out as one of the biggest shifts compared to previous seasons. What used to be a clear weak spot is now surprisingly deep, with multiple tiers of viable options that won’t hurt you offensively. That added depth makes it far less necessary to reach early.
On the other hand, third base presents the opposite challenge. After a small group of top-tier players, the position thins out quickly, making it one of the more important spots to address if you want to avoid chasing production later. Second base falls somewhere in between—it lacks true elite options at the top, but it’s a position filled with intriguing upside plays and some of my favorite sleepers if you’re willing to be patient. All of this shapes a draft environment where flexibility and timing are everything. Knowing when to attack scarce positions, when to wait on depth, and how to balance safety with upside will ultimately define a successful 2026 fantasy season
