2025 NFL TRAINING CAMP NEWS (7/26)

JUSTIN JEFFERSON SUFFERS MILD HAMSTRING INJURY

Justin Jefferson is dealing with a mild left hamstring strain and will miss some time during training camp, head coach Kevin O’Connell announced Friday. While the injury isn’t considered serious, Jefferson will be re-evaluated next week, and there is no indication that his Week 1 status against the Bears is in jeopardy.

That’s obviously good news for fantasy managers, but the situation isn’t without some red flags.

The reigning All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler is coming off another elite fantasy season despite missing seven games the previous year with a right hamstring injury. Though this latest strain affects the other leg, any hamstring issue is worth monitoring, especially considering Jefferson’s explosiveness and past soft-tissue concerns.

From a fantasy perspective, Jefferson remains a top-tier WR1, but this is a reminder of the risk that comes with high-first-round investments, particularly in a player with a history of lower-body injuries. The Vikings are clearly being cautious, but even a minor setback in August can ripple into September if not handled properly.

Unfortunately, J.J. McCarthy loses valuable reps with his No. 1 receiver that could’ve helped build timing and trust ahead of his first starting season. While Jefferson is more than capable of hitting the ground running with limited practice, McCarthy likely isn’t after hitting a few speed bumps through the first week of camp.

Jefferson’s absence temporarily boosts the fantasy stock of Jordan Addison, who will step into the WR1 role during camp. The Wolf labeled Addison as one of his favorite Underdog Best Ball targets, and the added reps with McCarthy should only boost his fantasy outlook.

Jalen Nailor, entering a contract year, now operates as the WR2 in camp and is worth monitoring in deeper leagues and Best Ball. The WR3 competition also opens up between Rondale Moore (coming off an ACL recovery) and rookie Tai Felton.

While Jefferson’s elite talent keeps him firmly in early-to-mid-Round 1 of 2025 fantasy drafts, the early question marks of the injury and his rapport with McCarthy could drop him a few spots. Jefferson is currently 1.05 overall in our 2025 Fantasy Football Rankings.

OTHER FANTASY FOOTBALL NEWS & NOTES:

  • Joe Mixon, who is on the non-football injury list, is expected to be out for an extended period of time with a frustrating foot injury, per Ian Rapoport.
  • NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reports that Drake Maye “increased [his] processing speed” this offseason. This was apparent after a very strong Saturday practice, with several highlight throws to Pop Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Javon Baker.
  • Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer “hinted a rotation could be on the way once the regular season starts.” However, Cowboys beat writer Calvin Watkins only mentioned Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, not RSJ poster boy Jaydon Blue, as potential first-team running backs.
  • Geno Smith on Brock Bowers: “I can’t give him the ball enough. I feel bad every time I don’t throw him the ball. So I’m just trying to make sure that I’m maximizing his ability, his talent, because that’s going to help our team.”
  • Elijah Mitchell operated as the Chiefs’ No. 2 running back over Kareem Hunt.
  • “TreVeyon Henderson is gonna have quite the impact on the Patriots passing game. Always open,” tweeted Patriots beat writer Mike Kadlick.
  • Seahawks reporter John Boyle said Elijah Arroyo “looks like a playmaker” after balling out thus far in training camp. This is significant because the team parted ways with Noah Fant, and there’s a real chance at significant snaps for the rookie.
  • The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia writes that Josh Palmer has been a “staple on offense” and is a sneaky candidate to lead the Bills’ receivers in snaps.
  • Bengals WR Jermaine Burton is slowly turning the corner and “has displayed a marked difference” after a horrific rookie season. It appears Burton is beginning to earn his coach’s trust and is becoming a professional.
