2025 NFL TRAINING CAMP NEWS (7/23)
TRAVIS HUNTER WILL GET A CHANCE TO “FLIP-FLOP BETWEEN OFFENSE AND DEFENSE”
After months of buzz surrounding Travis Hunter’s rare two-way ability, Jacksonville has a plan in place to unlock Hunter on both sides of the ball. He spent most of OTAs and minicamp focusing on the offense to get up to speed with Liam Coen’s playbook, but he also logged defensive snaps along the way.
Now, Coen says the plan is to “give him a couple days offense, a couple days defense, and then give him an opportunity to flip-flop within the same practice.” That sounds chaotic for real life, yet possibly perfect for his fantasy outlook.
#Jaguars HC Liam Coen on whether Travis Hunter will flip between offense and defense in the same practice:

“Yeah, he will, probably within the first six practices or so. You want to give him a couple days offense, a couple days defense, and then give him an opportunity to go… pic.twitter.com/EyLXyYrPeG
While there’s still uncertainty about how much time Hunter will actually spend on defense once the season begins, his offensive role alone puts him firmly in FLEX consideration for 2025 fantasy drafts. If he ends up being more than a part-time weapon? Watch out.
Coen’s system is tailor-made for a talent like Hunter. The former Rams assistant is known for designing space-heavy, rhythm-based offenses with clear reads and smart play-action. It’s a dream fit for a dynamic athlete like Hunter, who brings elite short-area quickness, route-running nuance, and circus-catch ability. His spatial awareness and twitch make him a mismatch nightmare, and he’s a top-notch ball-tracker.

If the Jaguars want to help Trevor Lawrence bounce back from a career-low 204.5 passing yards per game in 2024, Hunter should be a featured piece from day one. Pairing him with Brian Thomas Jr. gives Lawrence a versatile, explosive duo to work with, and Hunter could be the one who turns short gains into highlight-reels.
There will be some week-to-week variance if the Jaguars actually use him on defense. But if you’re swinging for upside in your 2025 fantasy football drafts, few players offer the same ceiling as Travis Hunter. He’s not just a novelty. Hunter is a unicorn with WR2 potential in the right game script.
THE CHARGERS WR2 RACE IS ON
If you’re trying to make sense of the Chargers’ fantasy wide receiver depth chart behind Ladd McConkey, get ready for a wild ride. Between inconsistency, surprise risers, and rookie buzz, this group is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in the league, and a potential goldmine for late-round value.
Let’s start with Quentin Johnston. The former first-rounder is showing signs of life. According to The Athletic’s Daniel Popper, Johnston’s ball-tracking has looked “vastly improved” at training camp. That said, he did drop a wide-open pass over the middle on Day 6, and Popper noted his confidence “seemed to have dissipated” afterward.
It’s the classic Johnston rollercoaster: flashes of talent followed by frustrating lapses.

Still, Popper reported that Johnston looked more consistent in the first five practices and remains a projected starter on the outside opposite McConkey. For now, he’s a volatile fantasy option with a wide range of outcomes.
Jalen Reagor unexpectedly ran with the first-team offense before sitting out Wednesday’s practice with a hamstring tweak. While that’s notable, don’t be shocked if his first-team reps fade as rookies Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith gain steam. Harris, a RSJ favorite, is starting to turn heads and should leapfrog Reagor once he’s fully up to speed with the playbook.

The Chargers’ offense, under Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman, is expected to lean run-heavy on a rookie running back that we’ll talk about throughout the summer. However, there’s still room for fantasy value in this WR room, especially with Justin Herbert slinging it. McConkey is locked into an elite WR1 role, but the real battle is for that WR2/3 spot behind him.
If Johnston can keep trending in the right direction, he’ll have the first crack. But don’t sleep on Tre Harris as a sleeper stash in deeper formats. He’s the kind of polished rookie who should surprise early.
