Who Will See Expanded Fantasy Roles with Mike Evans Done for Season?

Jameis Winston will still throw the rock around with Mike Evans on the shelf.

Mike Evans hauled in a 61-yard bomb from Jameis Winston, but pulled his hamstring in the process as he trotted into the end zone. Thus, with the Bucs out of contention, his season will be cut short and put on ice. Evans was on pace for a career year, totaling 67-1,157-8 through 13 games, and at the time of his injury, he was the No. 3 fantasy receiver in half PPR behind Mike Thomas and his teammate, Chris Godwin. We’ve always been an Evans > Godwin website, and it would have been quite the battle over the next two weeks for Bucs’ WR supremacy. But, we’ll sadly never know.

With Evans out, it gives Godwin a chance to be Jameis Winston’s true WR1. The targets will likely increase, but can he shoulder the load as the team’s true alpha?

The bigger question stemming from this injury will be if OJ Howard will finally be a reliable passing option with Evans’ handful of targets now available. With Evans out, he caught 4-of-5 targets for 73 yards. Howard should get a bump, while Cameron Brate should also get a touchdown bump.

Justin Watson will be a popular DraftKings play and the analytics hardos are already putting out their tweets declaring him Week 15’s golden nugget. Watson was put into a legitimate role with Evans out, finishing with 59 yards and a score on five receptions.

Godwin is The Wolf’s WR3 this week, while Watson is his WR40 (+17 vs ECR).
