Could Damien Williams be a Fantasy Stretch Hero… Again?

Damien Williams was a league winner in 2018... Could he do it again this year?

A week after yet another LeSean McCoy fumble, Damien Williams seemed to regain the Chiefs’ invaluable backfield reigns. He racked up 14 touches (2 rec) for 128 yards and one touchdown (20.8 FPs) in a Week 10 win over the Vikings. Perhaps more importantly, Williams logged 72% of the backfield snaps (43/60), compared to just 6 snaps and three carries for McCoy. If Williams maintains this usage, he could once again be a fantasy football stretch run hero.

Granted, nearly all of Williams’ Week 10 worth came on a 91 yard TD burst. Still, he’s continued to separate from Shady for back-to-back weeks now. Recall, in 2018, Williams only hovered around 50-60% of the snap and volume share once he took over, and still finished as the No.2 RB in FPPG over that span (22.5).

With Patrick Mahomes set to return and his volume looking more secure, Williams can be trusted back in lineups. We’ll wait to fully endorse him as a true RB1, since Andy Reid has been uncharacteristically committed-obsessed In 2019. But Williams at least feels on the path to (finally) realize the massive ceiling many of us pictured back in August.
