The Tyler Lockett Target Hog Fantasy Explosion Continues

Russell Wilson targeted Tyler Lockett early and often, making us look smarter in the process.

The hype surrounding Tyler Lockett heading into 2019 was real — and for good reason. Doug Baldwin retired, leaving Seattle’s WR1 position vacant for the first time since 2014, and Russell Wilson had a perfect passer rating with 10 TDs and 0 INTs targeting Lockett last year. Through 3 weeks, Lockett is not only meeting those expectations, but possibly surpassing them. He’s fantasy’s WR7 thus far, averaging just over 20 PPR points per game, and he leads the Seahawks in virtually every relevant receiving stat. And with the Seahawks constantly having to throw to make up for a defense that’s allowing over 26 points per game, Lockett’s lucrative role in Seattle’s offense isn’t going anywhere.

Lockett is not only putting up numbers, but he’s doing so efficiently — he’s caught 22 of 28 balls thrown his way in 2019 for a catch percentage of 78.5%, which is 2nd in the league among WRs with 20+ targets. This means that even if Will Dissly and D.K. Metcalf continue to evolve into major pieces of Seattle’s offense, Lockett will still be in position to put up WR1 numbers. He and Wilson are clearly on another level with each other, and as long as both are healthy and wearing Seahawks uniforms, they’ll both continue to thrive.

Lockett’s upcoming schedule isn’t particularly generous, with a Week 4 matchup with Arizona followed by the Rams and Browns, who’ve allowed the 2nd-fewest and fewest points to opposing WRs respectively, but that shouldn’t stop you from putting him in your lineup. If you drafted well, Lockett is likely your WR2, and he should fill that role to perfection for the forseeable future.
