Ravens RB Gus Edwards Bulldozes Path to Fantasy Must-Add Status

Gus "The Bus" Edwards is about to steamroll his way into Fantasy Stretch Run Hero status.

Every season fantasy creatures crawl from deep beneath the Earth’s crust and become stretch-run heroes. Ravens undrafted rookie RB Gus Edwards may just be 2018’s Kenyan Drake. The 6’1″, 235 lbs steamroller pulverized the hapless Bengals for 115 yards and a TD on 17 carries (6.76 YPC), and, amidst the carnage, potentially seized the starting gig from Alex Collins. After Collins sputtered to 18 yards on his 7 early carries, coach John Harbaugh released The Bus, who refused to give him a reason to turn back. Edwards barreled through the holes and defenders, refused to go down on first contact, and sent a fair share of tacklers six feet into the ground. According to Harbaugh, Edwards “sure took the bull by the horns,” suggesting a volume-shift could be in order. With the most delicious slate of remaining games among RBs, Edwards becomes the clear-cut No.1 Week 12 Waiver Wire add.

Also noteworthy, Harbaugh raved about the different element Gus brings, gushing, ““To give us that type of a back is very important…He gives us that back that we probably didn’t have earlier in the year…Gus was North and South, he’s a physical guy.” At minimum, this “type of back” seems destined for short-yardage and GL work, where Gus is built to thrive. On his inside-the-20 chances Sunday, Gus exploded for an 11 yard TD, which he immediately followed up with a successful two point conversion plunge.

Is there a chance Edwards is a one-hit wonder and vanishes as quickly as he arrived? Of course, especially if Joe Flacco resumes starting duties. More likely, however, Edwards will see valuable work against the softest possible competition, making him a highly viable flex here on out. This is a creature worth emptying the FAAB Wallets and raising as your own.
