In Wake of the Ty Montgomery Trade, the Fantasy Path has Opened for Aaron Jones

Will Mike McCarthy give Aaron Jones the workhorse treatment he deserves?

For the casual football fan, the Ty Montgomery trade looked very irrelevant. But for the rabid fantasy fan, this trade carries monster fantasy impact potential. After Montgomery made a fool out of himself by fumbling against the Rams, the Packers made the smart choice by shipping the third member of the three-headed backfield to the Ravens for a bag of footballs. Why does a trade involving the third running back matter, you might ask? Well, it clears the way for the most talented back on the roster, Aaron Jones, and it gives him the leg up on winning this once-disgusting backfield that possesses so much fantasy potential.

Jones is coming off his best performance of the season, where he saw a season-high 32 snaps. In those 32 snaps, he totaled 86 yards on the ground, which was highlighted by a 33-yard touchdown run on a delayed hand off. Jamaal Williams will continue to be annoying on the goal line and do his fair share of vulturing, but we are hoping that Jones can take Montgomery’s pass-catching duties and take a three-down back role. This is certainly no guarantee, but we hope Mike McCarthy will take his head out of his ass and give Jones the bell-cow treatment that he deserves.
