Fantasy Football Stock Report: Danny Woodhead suffers ankle injury in mini camp

Every morning we compile the most important fantasy football links of the day for you to stay up-to-date and ahead of your fantasy opponents… This is your number one place for beat writer blabber, injury news, transaction tracking, and fantasy analysis from the experts who taught us a thing or two.

“Danny Woodhead suffered an ankle injury in minicamp, but will be ready for training camp.”

– Tom Krasovic – San Diego Union-Tribune

The Chargers running back and grit captain Danny Woodhead apparently had a small setback injuring his ankle. This is minor news, as it appears he will be ready for training camp. Woodhead does have a history of ankle injuries, so hopefully this doesn’t linger. Woodhead serves as a valuable PPR running back, and I’d much prefer him to Melvin Gordon.

“Let’s start there. I think there’s a distinct possibility you’ll see more of Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill in the same backfield as they try to make up for the loss of Pro Bowl tight end Tyler Eifert.”

– Geoff Hobson – bengals.com

If anything, this would help Bernard tremendously as he’s proven to be a great pass catching back. The more plays he’s out there, the higher chance he has to rack up more receptions and overall points. Cincinnati will be looking for players to step in light of the departures of Sanu and Jones paired with Effect’s injury. Look for Bernard to step up.

“Odds are very, very high Robert Griffin III opens the season as the Browns’ starting quarterback”

– Mary Kay Cabot – Browns beat reporter, CSN MidAtlantic

Looks like one of my least favorite quarterbacks is on track to start the season under center for the Browns. Don’t be fooled by Griffin’s hype, as the only weapons he really has around him are a solid duo backfield in Duke Johnson and Isaiah Crowell, along with Gary Barnridge coming off an injury. No Josh Gordon on the field dampens any quarterback’s fantasy potential. Just stay away from RGIII. If you were already planning on drafting him, I question your sanity.

Not strictly fantasy:

  • Dallas Cowboys Rolando McClain was hit with a 10 game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy
  • Johnny Manziel was hit with a 4 game suspension for the same reason as McClain above. I’ve never seen anyone fall this far this quickly.
  • Sheldon Richardson of the New York Jets was suspended Week 1 for violating the leagues personal conduct policy
