JK Dobbins, Gus Edwards’ Fantasy Outlook With Mark Ingram Injury

JK Dobbins surprised most fantasy owners in Week 8 with 113 yards on just 15 carries against the Ravens in their first divisional matchup of the season.  If you had held onto Dobbins this long, hopefully, you didn’t listen to Field Yates and Matthew Berry last week who both agreed that moving on from the first-year back was the right call. Eighty-seven yards and a score is nothing to brush off from Gus Edwards either, especially against the vaunted Steelers D.

With Mark Ingram II (high ankle sprain) out in Week 8, the RB touches were split 16-to-15 between Edwards and Dobbins, respectively.  Ingram II is slated to miss at least one more week (and we’ve seen the trouble with returning from high ankle sprains this season — first Christian McCaffrey and now Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to miss 4-6 weeks), so the committee of Edwards and Dobbins will get to shine again.  However, the Ravens get a tough matchup against Indy and their top five rushing defense next week, so the tandem of backs face an uphill battle.

Edwards seems to have a slight edge on the depth chart at this point in the season, but the Ravens’ front office didn’t use their second-round pick on a back to have him play second fiddle for long.

Edwards is rostered in 31 percent of leagues, while Dobbins’ ownership rocketed up to 70 percent following the Week 9 waiver wire. If either back is still available in your league, scoop them up for a Week 10 stream.

If you value the consistency that depth charts in Baltimore may suggest, I’d take Edwards, but if you’re looking to stash a guy for late-season byes and someone who may break out further into his rookie campaign, Dobbins is your guy.

The rookie ranks the highest of the three backs on The Wolf’s Rest of Season Rankings, checking in at RB32. Edwards comes in at RB41 and Ingram is down at RB56.
