Not even listed at RB on the Roughnecks first depth chart, James Butler paced the backfield of this scorching offense. Butler racked up a team-high 11 touches (2 receptiona) for 50 YFS and 2 TDs. So much for “kick returner.”
Even in June Jones’ pass-happy attack, Butler should be far-and-away the top Fantasy Waiver Wire priority after Week 1. This offense should generate plenty of scoring chances, and Butler has already flashed his nose for the end zone. Moving forward, he should be considered no less than a Top-5 RB.
PJ Walker will deservedly steal the headlines, but Butler’s emergence in this backfield is almost as important of a fantasy development. No, RBs will never be featured in Jones’ high-octane passing game. But the Roughnecks look ready to light up the XFL scoreboard, generating plenty of scoring opportunities for Butler, who scored as a rusher and receiver in his Saturday debut
His Week 2 Draftkings XFL Price will be important to monitor. Moreover, in leagues with Waiver Wires, Butler will be far and away the top option. Moving forward, Butler deserves Top-Tier RB treatment.
