Dragons Austin Proehl Breakout Fantasy WR1 in XFL Debut

With 10 targets and 2 touchdowns in his XFL Debut, Ricky Proehl's son Austin is poised to be one of the top receivers in XFL fantasy.

One of the XFL’s breakout stars from Week One is Austin Proehl. The son of former Ram’s receiver Rickey Proehl was on the receiving end for the first touchdown in the XFL reboot. Austin set team-highs in targets (10), receptions (5), yards (88), and receiving TDs (2). In short, he was the Dragons’ complete target hog in Saturday’s 31-19 defeat to the D.C. Defenders.

Despite the Dragons poor play, former NFL receiver Proehl announced himself as one of the premier players moving forward for XFL fantasy. Seeing 10 targets is a good sign that he will be QB Brandon Silvers go-to-guy on a team that should be playing from behind and throwing the ball often. Proehl suffered a mild ankle injury late in the game, but returned to action and doesn’t appear to be serious moving forward. Treat him as a Top- 7 WR, particularly in PPR XFL formats like Draftkings, as Proehl looks like an XFL version of Julian Edelman in a high-volume slot role.

Proehl has risen to The Wolf’s No.2 WR in his Post Week 1 XFL Fantasy Rankings, behind only Nick Spruce.
