Rob Gronkowski Returns to Relevance Just in Time for the Fantasy Playoffs

Gronk finally looked healthy on Sunday.

In a season characterized by injuries and inconsistency, Rob Gronkowski may become a top TE option again just in time for your playoff run. The resurgence continued this week, torching the Dolphins to the tune of 8 catches for 107 yards and a TD. He was a huge part of New England’s passing game all afternoon, being consistently targeted on 3rd down and in the red zone for the first time all season. He definitely didn’t look like 2011 Gronk — especially not at free safety for the game’s final play — but as long as he’s healthy and gets his targets, he’ll remain a strong fantasy option moving forward.

It has become more and more apparent that Bill Belichick may have had the right idea when trying to trade Rob Gronkowski before this season. Gronk has been slow and unproductive — when he’s been on the field, that is. He’s missed 3 games and topped 5 receptions only three times, but Sunday in Miami was his best showing of the season from a fantasy perspective. With the Patriots still fighting for a first-round bye in the playoffs, Gronk will be on the field as much as possible from here on out, which hopefully will mean a few more productive games from the All-Pro tight end.

The Pats have the Steelers, Bills, and Jets remaining on their schedule, three teams who haven’t been particularly generous to tight ends. Still, Sunday shows us that when Gronk is healthy enough to play, he should be in your lineup.
