Curtis Samuel Continues to Rise up Panthers’ Target Totem Pole

The Panthers are starting to utilize their young playmakers.

Curtis Samuel caught 4-of-8 targets for 80 yards in the Panthers’ Week 14 loss to the Browns.

The 80-yard game was Samuel’s second straight. He could have had a much bigger day, but Cam Newton woefully underthrew him on a potential deep score. Samuel has stayed involved following Devin Funchess’ return, drawing at least eight targets each of the past two weeks. The Panthers are focusing on their playmakers with Newton’s shoulder aching. The Saints are on deck for Week 15.

The former Ohio State product is quietly putting together a consistent back stretch on the season. Samuel has four straight games of double digit points in half PPR leagues (including five of his last six). It’s become pretty evident that Cam Newton is struggling physically and Carolina is looking to their playmakers to help lighten the load on Newton’s shoulders. Christian McCaffrey has taken off to a whole new level, and now Carolina is looking to get Samuel the ball more to unleash his dynamic playmaking abilities.

With Devin Funchess almost non existent in Carolina’s plan last week, Greg Olsen on the shelf, and a date with New Orleans coming up Samuel’s stock is trending up. Carolina will need as much offense as it can muster up against the high powered Saints.
