Courtland Sutton Flops in First Game Without Emmanuel Sanders

Courtland Sutton took a backseat in Week 14.

Courtland Sutton caught 2-of-6 targets for 14 yards in the Broncos’ Week 14 loss to the 49ers, also losing a yard on a rush.

It was an epic face plant from the second-round rookie in his first game as the Broncos’ No. 1 receiver. Injury was partly to blame, as he was forced to play through an in-game thigh issue. One of his missed connections was an end zone target that arguably could have been brought home for a score. Inconsistent all year, Sutton probably is not ready for the glare of being the opposing defense’s No. 1 focus. The Browns, and perhaps lock down rookie Denzel Ward (concussion), are on tap for Week 15.

The Wolf was not high whatsoever on Cortland Sutton this week after some had him pegged for a breakout role with the loss of Emmanuel Sanders. In due fashion Sutton underwhelmed for the Broncos along with their offense pretty much as a whole. Taking away two stud receivers in Sanders and Thomas from the offense have really left a huge void that defenses don’t need to worry about. Case Keenum won’t be making secondaries shake in their boots, and the defense can load up the box on the only playmaker left in Phillip Lindsay. If you’re still alive in your league’s playoffs then keep Sutton on your bench going forward.
