2018 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 13: Start, Stash and Stream

Welcome back to Start, Stash and Stream where we provide an in depth look into the waiver wire landscape each week. For most of us, this is the final week of the regular season and (hopefully) you are entering the playoffs in each of your leagues. As a braggadocios sidetone, I am 10-2 in one league, and 8-4 in each of my other 3, so these are exciting times for RedSocker45. So with no time left to waste, and a dire need to replace the injured Melvin Gordon III (how do you run that double reverse with him already slightly injured, up 100 points?!?!), let’s dip deep into a pivotal Week 13 waiver wire period. Note, there are no bye weeks left, so the “Start” section might get lengthier as the weeks progress.

So you lost Melvin Gordon. Well join the club (thank god I rostered Austin Ekeler with him). Luckily, Doug Martin is somehow available in more than half of fantasy leagues. While a mostly unappealing character, Martin has averaged 57 yards and 4.75 YPC over his last five games, and has taken over a larger portion of the pass catching duties out of the Raider backfield. Yes, he will not provide half the value, upside or ceiling as Gordon, but he receives the lions share of the work and will put up back end RB2/Flex numbers weekly…With the Seahawks rolling, I want every piece of Russell Wilson‘s offense the remainder of the fantasy season. David Moore continues to impress, and after garnering 8 looks Week 11, he followed that up with a 4-103-1 TD line Week 12…Well if Old Man Martin above does not do it for you, and Old Man Gore below does not do it for you, you might as well ride the legs of the cement mixing Old Man LeGarrette Blount to a fantasy championship. Blount steamrolled the Bears on Thanksgiving with 19 carries for 88 yards and 2 scores, adding one 15 yard reception. He seems rather boom or bust due to touchdown dependency, but when Blount gets hot, he can really get going…Hopefully you finally turned a corner and believe in Lamar Jackson as a legit QB1, cause this could be your last chance to nab him. Sure, the two picks, the 178 yards on 25 passes, and the 58.4 QB rating do not scream “Start’em”. But the 16.90 and 22.22 fantasy points do. And so does the 190 rushing yards on 37 carries for 1 TD running line that he has through two starts this year.

Stash

Ekeler filled in for Gordon seamlessly this past Sunday, totaling 103 yards on 15 touches (10 receptions) for 1 TD. And while we all think he should lead the Chargers backfield in carries until Gordon’s heroic return potentially after the fantasy playoffs (sigh), watch out for seventh round rookie Justin Jackson, who impressed with 7 carries for 57 yards. Sure he may take up a roster spot, but if you own Ekeler he is definitely worth handcuffing with Jackson for now, just to be 100% sure you have the LA Charger lead back…With Marlon Mack suffering a concussion Week 12, his status for Week 13 is now in  doubt. And concussions tend to linger, as well all know, so Nyheim Hines represents a sneaky Week 13 pickup that you could look at come Week 16 and say he won you your fantasy league in the event Mack misses significant time…With defenses likely stacking the box against Colt McCoy and Adrian Peterson, the Redskins pass catchers could get some real love in the remaining weeks as Washington fights for its playoff life. Josh Doctson led the team in targets on Thanksgiving, catching 6 of 10 balls for 66 yards. And Trey Quinn caught 5 of 6 targets, and scored the only touchdown in the Redskin receiving corps…Playing some of their best football this year, the Buffalo Bills DST squares off against the Dolphins, Jets, and Lions in each of the next 3 weeks, which should help you get to the finals before dropping them as the play New England Week 16.

Stream

  1. Kansas City Chiefs DST (37% Yahoo ownership)
  2. Seattle Seahawks DST (24% Yahoo ownership)
  3. Green Bay Packers DST (40% Yahoo ownership)
  4. C.J. Uzomah, TE, Cincinnati Bengals (26% Yahoo ownership)
  5. Colt McCoy, QB, Washington Redskins (4% Yahoo ownership)
  6. Case Keenum, QB, Denver Broncos (16% Yahoo ownership)
  7. Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders (18% Yahoo ownership)

Three double digit favored defenses highlight this week’s top Streamers for Week 13. Given the Kansas City Chiefs DST‘s lofty sack total this year (T3 with 36) and opponent (Oakland), they are arguably FAAB worthy in a must-win week…C.J. Uzomah did me right Week 12 by garnering 13 targets. Only to let me down by catching 6 for 39 yards. With a dearth of options at tight end, his weekly floor volume gives him intriguing back end TE1 upside.

Others, for those of you in leagues with your grandparents and pets (50-60% Yahoo ownership)

  1. Josh Adams, RB, Philadelphia Eagles (55% Yahoo ownership); (25+% FAAB)
  2. Josh Reynolds, WR, Los Angeles Rams (51% Yahoo ownership); (10-12% FAAB)
  3. Tre’Quan Smith, WR, New Orleans Saints (50% Yahoo ownership); (10-12% FAAB)
  4. Courtland Sutton, WR, Denver Broncs (55% Yahoo ownership); (8-10% FAAB)
  5. Marquez Valdes-Scantling (56% Yahoo ownership); (8-10% FAAB)
  6. Theo Riddick, RB, Detroit Lions (51% Yahoo ownership); (4-6% FAAB)
  7. T.J. Yeldon, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars (60% Yahoo ownership); (4-6% FAAB)
  8. Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns (41% Yahoo ownership); (3-5% FAAB)
  9. Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans (58% Yahoo ownership); (3-5% FAAB)
  10. Royce Freeman, RB, Denver Broncos (52% Yahoo ownership); (2-4% FAAB)
  11. Denver Broncos DST (50% Yahoo ownership); (1-2% FAAB)
  12. Benjamin Watson, TE, New Orleans Saints (51% Yahoo ownership)

Head Coach Doug Pederson wants Josh Adams to handle more weekly touches. Last week Adams rushed the ball 22 times for 84 yards and a score. His upside manning the lead dog role in the Philly backfield is endless…A few weeks back we highlighted Josh Reynolds as a player with significant upside with Cooper Kupp going to IR. After a 6-80-1 TD line Week 11, Reynolds is a must add…While Blount roared as the lead back in Detroit on Thanksgiving, Theo Riddick did his part leading the team with 7 receptions for 48 yards, while chipping in 12 yards on two carries. Game flow and touchdown dependency will drives Blount’s fantasy production, but Riddick provides weekly Flex consideration in PPR leagues.
