Ty Montgomery Traded to Ravens, Exits Brutal Packers’ Committee

Aaron Jones is the (potential) winner of this deal.

After going against his coach’s orders and fumbling away the chance of an Aaron Rodgers‘ game-winning drive against the undefeated Rams, the Packers sent their wide receiver-turned-running back out of town on Tuesday. In return for Ty Montgomery, they received a measly seventh round pick, meaning they just wanted TyMont the hell out of the locker room. In what looks like a blah, nothing trade on the surface, it actually has some potential fantasy implications.

For Montgomery, he exits the Packers’ disgusting three-headed committee — which is a great thing. The bad thing though, is that he enters a crowded backfield in Baltimore with both Alex Collins and Buck Allen. Collins will continue to be the between-the-20s back, but Montgomery could steal the pass-catching role from Allen. On the other hand, he could just be stuck in another disgusting three-back committee and turn all three into a fantasy nightmare. Montgomery is available in 87 percent of leagues and could be a potential stash candidate if you have space at the end of your bench.

The departure of Montgomery is more important than the actual arrival. With Montgomery out of the picture, this finally gives a chance for the Aaron Jones‘ truthers and stashers to throw a party. Jones is coming off his best performance of the season where he saw a season-high 32 snaps. In those 32 snaps, he found paydirt on a 33-yard run and totaled 86 yards on the ground. Jamaal Williams will continue to be annoying on the goal line, but we are hoping that Jones can take Montgomery’s receptions and take a three-down back role. Hopefully Mike McCarthy will take his head out of his ass and give Jones the bell-cow treatment.
