Lions Trade Golden Tate to Eagles, Send Shock Waves Around Fantasy World

There are a bunch of fantasy implications with this trade.

Per Mr. Golden Tate himself, the stud wide receiver is headed to the reigning Super Bowl champion, Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles dealt a third round pick for the receiver and are getting back one of the better YAC receivers in the league. From a real football standpoint, the Eagles got better. Their offense will be borderline unstoppable with Carson Wentz tossing the rock to Tate, Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz. However, there’s only one football to go around and only so many fantasy points to be scored. On the other hand, there’s a second-year receiver in Detroit who will take the alpha reigns from Tate and a more than capable WR2 in Marvin Jones. This is one of the more impactful fantasy-relevant deadline trades in quite some time.

As mentioned above, Wentz will be a clear Stock Up candidate. His weapons are a cheat code that are only rivaled by Jared Goff’s arsenal in Los Angeles and Patrick Mahomes’ in KC. But, this will become a sticky fantasy standpoint for the skill position owners. Jeffery goes from being the clear Alpha-WR1 in the offense, to someone who’s going to battle for targets on a weekly basis with both Tate and Ertz. Jeffery has had 27 targets in his prior three games, and one can expect that number to be highly volatile with Tate on the field. The player who will take the biggest hit is Nelson Agholor. Agholor has been on the milk carton since Jeffery’s return, and we won’t fault you if you decide to drop him. Lastly, Ertz should continue to do Ertz things, but his touchdown numbers could drop a bit.

The player who benefited the most in this trade is second-year stud, Kenny Golladay. Golladay has proven that he’s more than just a preseason all-star and his play made Tate expendable. He’s been very quiet over the past two games, garnering just three combined targets, but was playing like a locked-in WR2 during the team’s first five weeks. Expect Kenny G to make smooth music with Matthew Stafford from here on out. With Tate no longer in the picture, Marvin Jones is one who should return to his 2017 consistency. He’s coming off a 30 point outburst against the Seahawks, but he’s been very boom-or-bust this season. Overall, you’re holding a lucky lottery ticket if you own either Golladay or Jones.
