Courtland Sutton is the Real Fantasy Winner of the Demaryius Thomas Trade

Courtland Sutton will slide into Demaryius' spot.

As you know by now, Demaryius Thomas was dealt to the receiver-needy Texans for a fourth rounder. Although there were many factors for the Broncos to make this deal, one of the main reasons was their rookie wideout, Courtland Sutton. The rookie from SMU will now line up across from Emmanuel Sanders in two wide receiver sets, which makes him a must-add Week 9 Waiver Wire option with high-end Flex or low-end WR2 potential. The trade shows the type of confidence that both John Elway and Vance Joseph have in the rookie, and he’s going to be given the chance to make plays right away.

Sutton has 324 yards and two scores on only 17 receptions, but he’s been in the shadow of Thomas and Sanders as Case Keenum’s third option on the perimeter. Thomas leaves an average of seven targets a game on the table, which should now be divided between Sanders and Sutton. Following the trade, Sutton will slide into the starting lineup as Keenum’s clear No. 2 target behind Sanders. The SMU product is a big-bodied receiver, standing at 6’4, 216 lbs with silly athleticism and very good hands. He’s very good at using his body to box out smaller defensive backs and make contested catches — especially in the end zone. He’s currently available in 88 percent of leagues and should be your No. 1 waiver priority this week.
